It’s always so thrilling for me to introduce you, my wonderful readers & followers, to super cool, local brands you may not have heard about.
Today I’m featuring a brand called Silver Lining. They make the most spectacular, stylish, warm and comfortable gum boots & raincoats right here in South Africa.
I stumbled across them by accident after reading an article about the brand on IOL (HERE) about the local and international success of their gumboots since they launched in 2019. To give you an example of just how successful, HERE is a picture from the brands Instagram of no other than New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern wearing a pair.
The brand says the idea for their ladies gumboot range stemmed from a need for affordable and fashionable, yet functional boots. It took them almost two years from conception to delivery. Their vision is to change the way gumboots are perceived and to eradicate all ugly gumboots from any wardrobe.
The Silver Lining’s mission is to create a brand that is classy and a design that is classic and comfortable.
I decided to invest in a pair of the Classic Black Gumboots R665 – BUY
This Classic Gumboot is made with a waterproof, recycled, black PVC sole and upper, lined with a soft sock. It has a comfortable thick insole and a unique silver cloud stud and handmade leather label are attached to the outside. Also, if you wear gumboots, you know that most don’t generally keep your feet warm. I’m pleased to report that these certainly do, however I must add that I do wear them with fluffy, thick socks. They are also so comfortable – in fact, these past few days, because of the non-stop rain in Cape Town – I’ve replaced my usual walking trainers with these are can happily & comfortably walk 3km in them (with my dog in tow).
When ordering I was advised to go a size up, which I did. I’m usually a size 5, but ordered a 6 and it’s a perfect fit, especially because I wear thick socks with them.
