Protea Wines recently sent me 3 of their everyday drinking wines.

Aside from being excellent value for money at R75 each for the Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc & Chardonnay; it was heartwarming to learn that Protea wines are made in the spirit of sustainability – the brands motto being Reduce, Reuse & Recycle.

You can view & purchase the full range of Protea Wines HERE

I love that everything about the range seeks to reduce environmental impact and prolong the life cycle of the product.

Each Protea wine bottle is decorated with a bespoke pattern inspired by the beautiful Cape. The labels peel off easily (even without washing in soapy water).

The Amorim Helix corks are twist-to-enjoy, ergonomically designed stoppers made from agglomerate cork, used with a glass bottle containing corresponding grooves to ensure an airtight seal. The Helix twist cork further enhances our emphasis on upcycling by preserving the wine tradition of a cork closure combined with a convenient way of resealing your bottle of wine.

There are so many ways to repurpose these beautiful bottles. I decided to use my empty Pinot Grigio as an olive oil bottle – all I did was peel off the label, wash the bottle and add a pouring cap.

You could also take your bottles to a professional glass cutter (a quick Google search turned up one 3 roads away from my house!) & have them transformed into cups, vases & pot plants.

Protea bottles make amazing gifts. You can even download your favourite print HERE from the Protea Wines website as wrapping paper or placemats.

I’m all about promoting our incredible South African wines, and clever, sustainable initiatives like this just warm my heart. Cheers!
