Being a beauty journalist, I receive countless amounts of products to try, especially when it comes to haircare. You’re probably thinking it’s the high end (read pricey), salon brands that I prefer; but you’d be wrong. To be honest, it’s the way more affordable, regular supermarket brands that give my hair its best results.

One of my favourites brands that fall into this category is Pantene. If you read my blog regularly you’ll know this, as I’ve blogged about my love for their products many times before (here and here).

If your hair is damaged, then the Pantene Pro-V Repair and Protect range is perfectly suited to you. It is the most advanced Pro-V formula yet – working at the core to repair hair, making it up to 15x stronger.

Regular use of Pantene Pro-V Repair & Protect Shampoo (R69.99 for a 400ml and R109.99 for a 750ml) and Conditioner (R69.99 for a 400ml and R109.99 for a 750ml) prevents cuticle damage, keeping hair’s moisture management barrier intact. This ensures hair stays hydrated and reduces dryness and dullness.

The range reduces friction between strands, leaving you with hair so soft and smooth, you can easily run your fingers through it without any tangles. In addition, frizz and flyaways are also vastly reduced.

In my opinion, this is THE perfect range for summer haircare as it helps protect hair from damage caused by sun, sea and chlorinated water. How often do you stop and think about the effects of these elements on your hair? Not only do saltwater and chlorine dry the hair out, they also cause colour treated hair to fade dramatically.

Now, as someone who loves to swim (in both the sea and swimming pool), my top tip for counteracting damage is to wet hair prior to swimming. When hair is wet, it’s far less susceptible to absorbing salt and chlorine from water.

You should also be wearing a hat to protect both hair and scalp if you’re spending the day outdoors.

Lastly, it’s SO important to repair and put moisture back into the hair after exposure to the elements. The Pro-V formula in this range works to intensively nourish the hair while repairing it, restoring its strength against damage.

Pantene mousse

The newest addition to the range that I’m most excited about, is the Pantene Pro-V Deep Moisture Soufflé (R74.99). Essentially it’s a leave in treatment that locks in moisture for 24 hours. It contains Pro-Vitamin B5 and a blend of four moisturisers that leaves dry hair soft and silky. I just adore the luxurious air-whipped texture. I apply in through my clean, damp hair and love how soft, silky and shiny it leaves my hair.

Pantene Pro V mask

I use the Pantene Pro-V Deep Smoothing Masque (R48.95) as an intensive treatment twice a week, to help banish frizz. Because I’m a tad lazy, I use it in place of conditioner, applying it to damp hair after shampooing for about two minutes. For even more of a smoothing boost (and this is a great tip given to me by my hairdresser), I stick my shower cap on for those two minutes. The formula contains micro-smoothers that work to lock out humidity, preventing frizz from forming. I think this baby is also going to come in VERY handy during the Cape winter, when the frizz fight really intensifies!

Pantene Frizz fighter

I took the Pantene Pro-V 24-hr Frizz fighter Cream (R74.99) with me to JHB on a press trip last week. For the three days I was there, it rained heavily. I was SUPER impressed with how effectively it tamed my frizz and flyaways. I also really like the soft, creamy texture that is NOT AT ALL sticky, and doesn’t leave hair looking dull or oily.

I like how with this range you’re able to repair the damage caused by summer’s harsh temperatures, while putting your best look forward every season.
