winter skin holding 2

Yesterday, I received some interesting information from Olay relating to myths about skin care. Also contained in the press release was some information on what drives women to buy the skincare products they do. I was fascinated to learn that women are more likely to buy skincare products that have been endorsed by their friends and family before looking to a professional for advice! Given that we all have different skin types and conditions, it’s worth bearing in mind that what works for your friend, sister or mom, might not work as well for you.

Here are the most common myths that need busting. Right Now!

Myth: I don’t have to change my products when the season change

Fact: When the temperature drops just a few degrees, it saps the humidity out the air. This has an adverse effect on the skin, making it drier. Come winter, it’s a good idea to switch to a more nourishing day and night cream. Ensure your day cream has a built-in SPF – just because its cooler outside doesn’t mean the suns rays won’t damage your skin. Look for formulas with ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin that draw moisture into the skin. Oils are also a great option – whether your skin is oily, or not.

Myth: There is no right or wrong way to apply face cream

Fact: Contrary to popular belief, there is a correct and incorrect way to apply moisturiser. It goes without saying that you should always wash your hands before applying any skincare product to you face. Doing so prevents bacteria from getting onto the skin and causing infections. Depending on how dry (or oily) your skin is, all you really need is a small dollop, quarter the size of a 50cent coin. Applying any more could result in clogged pores and could make your face look oily. Make sure you apply the cream evenly and massage it very lightly. Never rub the cream as this can contribute to your skin sagging. If your skin looks and feels oily after using a moisturiser, blot it with a tissue to absorb the excess oil.

Use an eye cream to moisturise and nourish the delicate skin around the eyes. Dot the cream, an inch away from the eyes to avoid irritation and gently tap in the formula, using your ring fingers.

Myth: I don’t need eight hours of sleep to look good

Fact: Yes, you actually do! While we sleep, our skin and bodies are in repair mode. Not getting enough shut eye can eventually lead to the onset of fine lines, premature wrinkles, dehydration and dull skin. Using an exfoliator three times a week will help with boost clarity and radiance, especially if you’re getting too little sleep. It’s important that you follow a good nighttime skin regime before you go to bed. Always remove your make-up before going to bed and ensure that you cleanse your skin properly. Follow with an appropriate serum and night cream. Undertake to cleanse, treat and moisturise the skin at least twenty minutes before you go bed. This allows enough time for the moisturiser to absorb.

Olay CC & Regenerist 3 point

My two favourite Olay Regenerist products are:

1. Olay Regenerist 3 Point Super Serum (R280) – Perfect for women aged 35+, this super serum is loaded with an amino-peptide complex that helps firm skin on the face, neck and décolletage. It also works to hydrate and plump fine lines and wrinkles. I like how fast absorbing and non greasy it is. Because it contains Niacinamide, Olay’s essential ingredient, it also works to gently exfoliate the skin’s surface, while improving both hydration and skin barrier function.

2. Olay Regenerist CC Complexion Correction SPF 15 (R280) – This unique 3-in-1 swirl-system blends serum, moisturiser and sheer foundation in one. The formula contains Olay’s unique Essential Glucosamine Complex, proven to visibly reduce dark marks in 8 weeks. I love how easily spreadable this formula is and the radiant, dewey finish it leaves on my skin. It’s also buildable, so you can apply more if you feel one layer is not sufficient. In addition, it contains an SPF 15 to protect skin from UV damage.
