Your forties really are fabulous years (ask me, I’m 44 this year). Your career is on track, you’re not afraid to speak your mind, and children are (nearly) grown up. At forty, most women I know are comfortable with who they are and know exactly what they want and what they don’t…
During our forties, we finally have more time for ourselves. It really is a new lease on life!
However, the years do begin showing on the face, with lines around the eyes, a less defined facial oval, less radiance and the first signs of slackening…
To answer these pressing skin issues women 40+ are faced with, Clarins have re-launched their iconic Extra Firming Day (R950) & Night Creams (R995).
The Clarins Extra Firming duo puts the “spring” back in your skin by targeting the key beauty concerns of women aged 40+: wrinkles, lack of radiance, loss of firmness and skin slackening.
Why you want extra firming in your forties (do I even have to ask?):
Firmness has always been at the heart of Clarins Laboratories research, because firm skin means wrinkles are less prominent, the facial structure remains defined and cheeks are plumped.
In 2018, Clarins introduces the concept of the skin’s “youthful spring”.
Why?
Because, like a spring, young and firm skin resists stretching, resists pressure, and bounces back into place.
Researchers at Clarins also recently discovered the existence of “youth reservoirs”.
These are clusters of young cells which promote the skin’s regeneration and which, when they leave their reservoir, become mature fibroblasts.
The clusters of young cells ensure normal renewal of fibroblasts and firm skin.
When analyzing the structure of “youth reservoirs”, Clarins has highlighted two major characteristics:
- The young cells are surrounded by a protective environment called a “nest”.
- There are links between the young cells in the cluster so that they remain grouped together in the reservoir.
The impact of age on the “youth reservoirs”:
Due to the breakdown of the protective nest and weakening of links between cells, the number of “youth reservoirs” drops by around 55% with age. The regeneration capacity of fibroblasts decreases, leading to loss of firmness.
What to do?
Turn to nature and plant extracts to tackle this issue.
New plant ingredients used in the Extra Firming Formulas:
In Burkina Faso, Clarins sourced a new extract of organic mitracarpus (pictured below) that stimulates the production of collagen and reinforces the links of firmness, visibly promoting the skin’s elasticity.
Kangaroo flower (given that name as it resembles a Kangaroo paw) has also been added as it was identified for its regeneration capabilities. This plant is well known among Aboriginal tribes who brew its flowers into an energizing drink & eat its nutrient-rich roots. It has anti-wrinkle, firming and lifting powers.
Organic African Ebony extract protects the skin’s barrier function and protects against oxidative stress, Shea oil moisturizes and comforts the skin, while organic desert date extract gives the skin a more even tone. The Clarins Anti-Pollution Complex has also been added to combat the horrible effects of pollution and free radicals on the skin.
The skin has its own rhythm: during the day, it defends itself against external aggressions (pollution, free radicals, UV, stress) and at night, when resting, it is at its peak of regeneration. So, before you go to bed, help it get a good night’s sleep!
Do You Know About The “Golden Hours”?
These are the hours of the night between 11pm and 2am, when skin regeneration cycles are at their peak, skin reconstruction is optimal and the skin triggers its repair process.
Nighttime is a time for intense regeneration, but only if cells shift into “night” mode. By comparing the activity of young and mature fibroblasts, Clarins Laboratories revealed that two nighttime regeneration activities slowed down with age: A drop in the production of tenascin, a key component of the dermis and dermo-epidermal junction. A drop in the production of LOXL-1, a protein in elastic fibres that ensures good quality fibres.
For better nighttime regeneration, ask for the moon! Or rather, the new extract of hydrated silica of moonstone. By acting on these two nighttime mechanisms of the fibroblast, it helps to optimize the skin’s nighttime regeneration process.
Still Not convinced?
Take a look below at the product effectiveness trial done by Clarins on the Extra Firming duo.
I’m not stranger to this duo, and have used both the day and night formulas many times before. I love how soft and enveloping the textures are, instantly bringing a feeling of comfort to the skin. Yes, both live up to their claims, and I personally can see an improvement in radiance and skin quality. i would also recommend using this duo along with the Clarins Double Serum (read about it here) for a real anti-ageing trifecta.
The Extra Firming packaging has also been given a stylish, very on-trend new look with its nude and rose gold tones. The products are also lightly fragranced with delicate notes of Camellia and Rose that leave a wonderfully fresh, soft feel on the skin.
With 3 Extra-Firming creams sold across the world every minute, this range really does fall into the “iconic” category.
The Clarins Extra Firming Day (R950) and Night (R995) formulas are currently available in store.
