I love bold colours and dazzling prints and think they always make a statement. Yesterday, I decided to wear this printed top and drawstring trousers by DuSud to meet my hubby for lunch at Bacon On Bree. It is the perfect smart/casual look for lunching, shoot sourcing and launching.
The top, R1450 has a black jersey cammy top with the printed silk chiffon overlay sewn onto it. I love it, because it’s cut to perfection, concealing upper arms and tummy. I like how the silk chiffon overlay is cropped at the front, revealing the basic black cammy top that breaks up the bold prints, ensuring they don’t become too overwhelming.
The drawstring trousers, R1990, are also made with the silk chiffon and have a black lining underneath. One could wear the top & trousers together, as I have in the pictures, or pair the trousers with a black or white vest or T-shirt. For a smarter look, a black silk top and strappy heels would work well. I’d pair the top with blue or black denims jeans or with a black pencil skirt, for a more formal work look.
Just look at the amazing print detail and colour combination
I paired the look with my white Converse All Stars and black Michael Kors sunnies.
My tips for wearing prints
- Anyone can wear prints, no matter what your body shape or size. If you’re bottom heavy, opt for a printed top and plain black trousers. If you’re top heavy, pair a beautiful printed skirt or trousers with a plain black top – preferably one with a V-neckline.
- Always wear the correct size print for your figure. If you’re petite, choose a small print, as a larger one will overwhelm the figure. However, if you’re not petite (like me), you could go for a larger, bolder print.
- You can mix and match prints. As an example, polka dots and stripes work well when worn together. Just ensure the prints have at least one colour in common to pull them together.
