Garnier come clean 1

It must have been about two years ago that I, along with my fellow beauty editors and bloggers, attended a Garnier launch to learn about their new products. An image of the hotly anticipated Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water popped on the screen, leaving all of us wanting to know when it would be launched in SA. “We’re not sure if we’ll be bringing this product to South Africa”, said the brand manager.

“But why?” we all said in unison, tears in our eyes (okay, maybe I’m over exaggerating a tad about the tears). One beauty editor even commented on how she’d stocked up on it when she was in Rome, and went on to tell us just how magnificent it was.

Fast-forward two years, and it finally arrived on our shores. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t my favourite cleansing water.

When Garnier asked me to take part in the #GarnierComeClean blogger challenge, I couldn’t say no. I was sent both the dry/ sensitive skin option, as well as the one for combination/oily skin. Included in my ‘blogger box’ was a box of relaxing tea, a scented candle, a notebook and a water bottle. Garnier asked me to use the micellar for five days and report back. This was so easy, as I’d already been using it for almost three weeks and LOVED it even before the challenge.

What makes the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water so special?

Essentially the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water is a 3-in-1 (cleanse, tone & hydrate) cleansing routine in a bottle that’s super gentle and effectively removes all make-up. It is also un-scented and hypoallergenic, making it a great choice for sensitive skins. I like that it leaves my skin feeling clean and hydrated. At night, I use mine to remove make-up and cleanse my skin. In the morning, I use it to refresh my skin before moisturising. I really like the super cute packaging and the fact that you can get 200 uses out of a 400ml bottle. Oh, and best of all, both formulas retail for a very, VERY affordable R79.99

What is in the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water that helps it effectively remove make-up?

The micellar water contains groups of molecules, or micelles, that act like ‘dirt magnets’, capturing and lifting away make-up and impurities from the skin.

Can all skin types use it?

Yes, while it’s designed for sensitive skin types, everyone can use it.  I don’t have sensitive skin; in fact it tends towards normal to dehydrated and I love the way my skin feels after using it.

How do you use it?

It’s so simple. Apply the micellar water onto a cotton pad and wipe across your face. When it comes to the eyes, remember to be gentle – you don’t want to pull the skin or snag your eyelashes! I place mine over the eyes for a few seconds, then gently wipe to remove any makeup. To remove any leftover mascara or eyeliner at the base of the lids, use a cotton bud saturated with the water. I’m also very impressed at how effectively it removes long wearing lipstick; all that’s needed is one swipe.

Did you know?

Washing your face until it’s “squeaky-clean” can strip it of its protective barrier, leaving the skin feeling tight and dehydrated, instead of clean and dewy. Rather opt for a gentle cleansing water

While I’ve been a fan of micellar waters for a while now, I have to give Garnier’s one a big thumbs up. In fact, I’m so impressed with it, I bought another bottle of the sensitive skin formula for my 11 year old – and, I’m very, very picky with what I let her use on her skin. She absolutely loves it too.
