travel 3

I kid you not when I say I travel to JHB at least once a week for business. Most times, I get to overnight – but every so often (like today) I’m in and out on the same day.

I get so many readers asking what to wear for a day business trip, so I thought I’d show you what I’m wearing and explain why I’ve chosen this particular look.

flight 1

A black dress (LBD) is always a good idea – no matter what the occasion. The trick is to find a style that suits your body shape. Because I have small boobs, a high round neck design works well. But, for bustier women, I always suggest a V-neck. I also like styles that are nipped in at the waist as I carry all my extra weight around my tummy. I love the 50’s retro vibe of this dress by local label ‘Take Care’ – I bought it for a steal at their stand at the Biscuit Mill mid winter.

Most stylish travellers agree that you should stay away from fabrics such as cotton and linen when flying, as they tend to crease. While I agree with this school of thought (especially when it comes to linen), I think that it’s perfectly okay to wear cotton when travelling, so long as it’s a thicker weave.

To add an element of fun to my outfit, I’m wearing a bold, bright and slightly edgy statement neckpiece by Pichulik that my hubby bought me for Christmas. My plain black dress acts as the perfect backdrop for this gorgeous piece.

I’m always cold on planes, no matter how warm the weather may be. Today, I’m wearing a neutral coloured waxed cotton blend jacket (bought 4 years ago at Trenery) that keeps me warm while managing to pull my whole look together.

When you’re running through the airport trying to make your flight, you don’t want to be wearing heels – trust me. I need shoes that are elegant, yet comfortable to wear for the whole day. These leather midi-platforms are by Charles & Keith and add a bit of height to my silhouette (making me look slimmer). They have a smart vibe, yet are super comfortable. I bought them on sale two years ago for R200!

FIGHT 2

I decided to sport my new Day Birger Et Mikkelsen ‘Gwyneth’ Bag today (4). I’m giving one away (valued at R1199) tomorrow, so keep your eyes peeled! Not only is it super stylish, it’s also big enough to schlep all the beauty products I’m likely to receive at todays launch back with me.

My sunnies (1.) are by Chloe. They’re an absolute must to hide red eyes (I woke up at 4:30am to be at the airport at 5:30am) while looking stylish. Again, I like their slightly retro 50’s vibe that compliments my look today.

I enjoy reading on planes (although I never get to, because I’m always in deep conversation with my beauty bestie, Eloise Dreyer – check her beauty blog out here ) and am keen to finally start #Girlboss (2.) by CEO of Nasty Gal, Sophia Amoruso.

It’s going to be a long day, so I’ll need to refresh my fragrance regularly. Today, I chose the new Si eau de toilette (R995 for a 50ml) by Giorgio Armani (3). It’s a delicate yet modern blend of blackcurrant, green pear, May rose and musky blonde woods. And, the bottle is just gorgeous. It will only be available to purchase from March (and I’ll do an in-depth review closer to the time).

I better get going now before I miss my 6:30am! Have a great day.
