A few weeks ago, I attended the Poetry & Old Khaki media day to check out what these brands have in store for us this summer. Everyone that attended was smitten with the beautiful, giant-sized paper flowers that were dotted around the venue (pictured above). Even though it was a cold and stormy day in Cape Town, the spirit of spring filled the air.
For summer 2014, Poetry draws inspiration from flora and fauna, touched with the whispers of magic and whimsical wonderment. According to Janine Caitlin, Senior Buying Manager for the brand, “the Poetry Summer 14 collection emulates pure femininity. From homewear to delicate florals to vibrant blossoms – this collection includes something for everyone.”
I really like the white & blue tropical printed caftan/ blouse, and know it would work with skinny denims, denim shorts or just worn over my bikini as a cover-up. I also love the feminine 50’s inspired shaped of the dress below. It’s perfect for enhancing a tiny waist while covering big hips & thighs.
There were some lovely accessories from Poetry too – I have my eye on the nautical striped bag.
Old Khaki’s ‘road tripping’ theme perfectly underpins the spirit of the adventurer. There’s a focus on detailing and interesting fabrics this season. Key silhouettes making their debut are the Old Khaki bomber jacket (pictured), trapeze cami’s and beach shorts. I was particularly drawn to the silk Japanese blossom print bomber – I love the way it takes the typical college style bomber and gives it a feminine twist with the pretty blossoms.
I like how the brand’s ethos is unpretentious, unaffected and unrestricted. The clothing is beautifully made, durable and affordable and does not need to make a fashion statement.
