I was recently sent some beautiful pieces of jewellery from local brand ORA.

ORA means NOW in Italian, for those wondering. All ORA jewellery is hand made to order in Cape Town and sustainably crafted. All gemstones used in Ora jewellery are sourced ethically from conflict free areas and the packaging of items is recyclable.

The woman behind the Ora brand is designer Natasha Collins who designs subtle, minimalist jewelry that allows every woman to make her own statement.

This ethos totally resonates with me because I believe that jewellery should enhance one’s style, and I prefer a more minimal approach to my everyday jewellery.

Look how beautifully packaged ORA’s jewellery is.

Long Bar Gold Studs R375 – BUY

I just adore the simplicity of this design that when worn, mirrors the curve of the jaw. They are simple, yet elegant with just a bit of an edge.

Tiny Bar Gold Studs R265 – BUY

These are so classic, but again, the rectangular design adds a unique twist. This is the kind of style I’d wear on the daily. I’d also most likely to wear them in my cartilage piercing.

Double Circle Gold Necklace R420 – BUY

Again, I love the simplicity of this necklace and I’d add a few more for a layered look. I think this style is a great investment because it’s minimal, but the circular details add interest.

Star Charm Bangle R645 – BUY

This is my favourite piece and I love everything about it, especially the star charm. The simplicity of the design allows you to add other bracelets and wrist chains.

You can also order this piece in silver for R2900.

The pieces I received are all handmade from brass. The necklace chain and bangle are plated with 14 carat yellow gold.

Cleaning Handmade Brass Jewellery

Brass Jewellery can easily be cleaned and restored to its natural luster.

Drop your brass jewelry into a mixture of lemon juice and salt.

Add enough salt so that it does not dissolve in the lemon juice. Leave in solution for a minute.

After, rinse with soap and water and dry thoroughly with soft tissue paper or a micro fibre cloth.
You can also clean brass jewelry with a standard Jewellery polishing cloth (used to clean silver and or gold) or a generic brass cleaner like Brasso.
