Ah Winter, my old friend; cozy knits, fireside slumber, weekend mini breaks and sadly, dehydrated, dull-looking skin. Don’t know about you, but I have my heater centimetres away from my desk and at night, I sleep with heating panels switched on in my bedroom. Heating zaps moisture from skin (ditto aircons in summer) causing radiance to drain away from your face. No matter your skin type, dehydration plagues all women and switching up skincare products is often a forward-thinking solution.
Enter Clarins beautifully repackaged Hydra-Essential range; aqua blue for you guessed it, moisture-quenching treatment creams and serums. I couldn’t wait to slather away and give my tight feeling skin the dose of hydration it’s craving right now. I have a normal to dry skin (thanks to two rounds of Reaccutane in my mid to late twenties), as well aging skin – I am now 36 years old.
These are the ingredients that have really impressed me, and as is always the case with Clarins products, they are beautiful (and effective) botanicals. In the Hydra-Essential Bi-phase Serum (R645) and others products in the range (use the serum if your skin is incredibly dehydrated) is stellar Beautyberry (it’s a fruity plant ingredient officially called Callicarpa) for a healthy, rosy glow, often so lacking in winter. It does this by protecting the microcirculation to revive your complexion’s radiance. But what does this all mean? By protecting skin’s microcirculation (very sensitive to changes in climate) this extract helps turn your illumination around so your skin looks alive again.
So, lets talk results; I’m all about the fresh texture of the bi-phase serum (it needs to be applied before your moisturiser specific to your skin type). It really has become my SOS treatment product and I notice immediate comfort. It’s enhanced by the Hydra-Essential Crème désaltérante (R560) Normal to Dry Skin (this is the treatment cream), and after applying it, I went about my day feeling and looking like I had healthy skin again.
If your skin is normal to combination, reach for the Hydra-Essential Cooling gel (R560). It’s matte texture is better suited for skin that produces more oil and has a fresh texture that melts quickly into your complexion.
