It was a matter of time before Sorbet launched a full makeup line. I mean, the brands BB cream – which was launched years ago – is sensational! It’s one makeup item I’m never without.
The brand took notice of all the love they got for their BB cream – as in their press release states, “The missing piece to our beauty jigsaw was makeup, and after the success of our BB Cream and nail colour, we took the hint and with the help of our skincare experts set about creating a complete makeup range.”
The full makeup line launched in selected Clicks stores and Sorbet Salons in March this year.
Together with Clicks, Sorbet launched The Skin Tone Project .This nationwide project got up close and personal with nearly 3000 women, to help the brand with creating a foundation range that would match all skin tones here in South Africa. They identified 28 shades that they needed to offer for all the diverse skin colours here in South Africa. But they didn’t stop there, they created Foundation Match-Me services to help customers find their perfect match in-store. There are also Match-Me experts in Sorbet salons and participating Clicks stores that will ensure you find the perfect shade to suit your complexion.
I was lucky enough to receive a big bag of products to play around with. Here’s the lowdown…
Sorbet Face First SPF 15 Anti-Ageing Foundation + Serum (R289.95)
I really, really like this foundation because I think it makes perfect sense to include a serum in an anti-ageing formula. Hello, killing two birds, as the saying goes. The formula contains Q10, peptides and antioxidants that all tackle signs of ageing. I like that this foundation is moisturising (most women concerned with ageing need moisture) and very easily blendable. It also features a unique dropper applicator that helps you target areas most affected by ageing. The fact that is has an SPF 15 is a bonus as it protects the skin against the sun’s harmful rays. Apply it with a brush or fingers. Personally, I prefer using my fingers as the heat from them warms the foundation, giving it more of a melting texture.
Sorbet Prep & Poreless All-In-One Super Face Primer (R149.95)
A bit like an Instagram filter in a tube! Apply a little of this under your foundation on the forehead, chin, cheeks and around the nose. This antioxidant-rich primer works with all skin tones to create a smooth, poreless canvas. It also ensures your makeup lasts.
Sorbet What a Cheek Blush Cheek Stamp (R169.95)
This nifty blush features a built-in, easy to use applicator sponge for a no-mess pop of colour. It is available in 1 of 3 pretty shades. I got the “Fresh Berry” colour – a subtle pink that works well on lighter skin tones. The formula is highly pigmented, but I found it did need to be reapplied one or twice during the day (but then again, most blusher formulas require reapplication).
Sorbet Shimmer & Glow Shimmer Bronzer (R199.95)
Choose 1 of 2 dazzling palettes for an instant pick-me-up that gives you a beautifully soft and natural glow. I got the “Bronzed Beauty” palette that works very well with my skin tone. This shimmer bronzer features baked powder technology for a luxurious finish and is just as good (if not even BETTER) as the Bobbi Brown version and costs a fraction of the price. It can be used to add a bronzed glow to both face and body. Each colour strip can also be used as an individual eyeshadow, making this a real multi-tasking beauty (and you know how I love those!)
Sorbet Glow & Tell Liquid Highlighter (R149.95)
Mix this highlighter with your foundation or primer for a radiant, dewy look, or simply dab a little onto your upper cheekbones and temples for the perfect highlight. I see this product is getting A LOT of love of social media (because it’s that good) and predict it will become of of Sorbet’s iconic makeup products (like the BB). Try it!
Sorbet Get Lippy Moisturising Lip Colour (R139.95)
I enjoyed using this long-lasting formulation that really does nourish the lips with coconut and lanolin while protecting them with sun protection additives. The formula didn’t bleed and the colour payoff was great. I did need to retouch after meals, but then again, this is not a long-wearing formula. There are 12 beautiful shades available.
Sorbet Loud Lashes Volume Mascara (R149.95)
I found this formula really did live up to its claims of adding volume to my lashes. I think this is in part due to the curved fibre brush, but I see there is nylon in the formulation, and know it’s a great ingredient for building volume on lashes. I like that the formula doesn’t clump, run or smudge throughout the day, yet is relatively easy to remove with a good, effective face wash (I know, I know, I really should be using an eye makeup remover, but #LAZY.
Sorbet Take A Brow Pocket Brow Bar (R179.95)
I’m all about my brows. Even though I had them microbladed a year back, I still need to perfect them. I prefer a shadow formula over a brow pencil because I find they are so much easier to use (as long as you have an angled brush with hard bristles). I like how this palette has a lighter and darker brow powder, as well as a wax that allows one to tame unruly brows.
Sorbet Get Glossy Lip Gloss (R129.95)
This moisture boosting gloss has a wonderfully smooth texture and coats the lips with dazzling shine. I enjoy using it because the formula isn’t sticky (my worst!) and there’s a flexible foot applicator that allows for perfect application – even when there’s no mirror on hand. The formula contains antioxidants as well as UV filters to protect against UV rays. I got the “Pretty Pout” colour – a rosy pink that coats the lips with very natural looking colour.
Sorbet Matte Kisses Matte Lip Colour (R149.95)
Look, matte lipsticks can be hit and miss. Luckily this one is a hit! The formula is highly pigmented for colour impact and is quite long lasting (around 5 hours). It didn’t leave my lips dry at all thanks to the conditioning formula that works to lock in moisture. I also enjoyed the easy-glide formula. I got the colour “Glitz” which is a pinky, coral tone that certainly makes a colour statement when you wear it.
I really have enjoyed trying this collection and think Sorbet have done a great job. I like how well priced most of the products are, giving the great quality.
