If you’re reading this blog post, I assume you know that what you put into your body shows on your skin. Consume a diet high in saturated fat, sugar and alcohol, and you skin will eventually end up look sallow and haggard. Eat lots of fruit, veggies and superfoods – washed down with water, and your skin WILL glow with health and vitality.
It’s because of this that Elemis developed their new Superfood Skincare Range: a nutrient dense, Vegan Friendly range that includes a face wash, day & night creams and a truly sensational facial oil. I’ve only been using the range for two weeks now, but I’m loving it (so is my skin). Also the fact that it’s Vegan is a BIG bonus for me.
Essential to these power packed formulas are Supergreens and Supergrain complexes, rich in antioxidants, omega fatty acids, vitamins and minerals to feed the skin with nourishment. The range also features a Prebiotic, designed to support the good microflora on the skin’s surface, helping to balance and maintain its delicate ecosystem.
Elemis Superfood Facial Wash (R550)
This is a gentle gel cleanser that removes makeup, dirt and pollution, while keeping the skins microflora balanced. It contains a complex of wheatgrass, Kale and Nettle extracts, Broccoli seed, Avocado Oil and Organic pumpkin seed. It has a green colour, but I was assured at the launch that this is due to the chlorella used in the product, as there are (thankfully) no colourants included in this range.
Elemis Superfood Day Cream (R920)
This day cream helps balance and replenish the skin with a superfood complex containing Goji berry, Broccoli seed, Ginger Ferment, Matcha Tea, Daikon Radish, Green Mandarin and cucumber seed. Also included is a gentle Lactobionic Acid that brightens and enhances hydration, leaving the skin plump and dewey. Bonus points that both moisturisers come in air-tight pump packaging, as this prevents any actives from oxidising or degrading once exposed to air. The formula of this day cream is not at all oily, but still nourishing and absorbs quickly. It can be used on all skin types. There is no SPF included in the formula, so ensure you apply one after to protect your skin from ageing UV rays.
Elemis Superfood Night Cream (R1010)
It’s so important to replenish the skin at night with all the nutrients it needs. This night cream is rich in Sweet Almond Milk (from organic, hand-picked almonds) and helps hydrate dry and depleted skin. The Supergrain complex contained in this formula includes Barley, Chia Seed, Quinoa, Black seed, Flax seed and Rice bran. It works to lock in moisture, assist with nighttime repair and balance the skin’s microflora. I find it a tad more nourishing than the day cream (most night formulas are) and really like combining it with the Superfood Oil for an even more nourishing skin care treat. Again, it can be used on all skin types.
Elemis Superfood Facial Oil (R1050)
I must admit, for the past few months, I’ve gone a bit off facial oils. I’ve tried so many (good & bad) over the years, and really, only a few stand out for me. I just think there’s a LOT of marketing hype around them, and many contain very basic oils. So, it was with a bit of a meh attitude that I tried this one. And WOW, just WOW! I can see why this little beauty is an award winner. There are 9 antioxidant and omega-rich superfood extracts contained in this oil. There’s Broccoli oil, which is a powerful antioxidant; Cucumber oil that smoothes the skin, helping it retain moisture; Daikon Radish Oil that is easily absorbed and nourishes skin from the inside out; Flax Seed Oil to counteract redness and rosacea; macadamia Oil that is rich in Omegas and super nourishing; poppy Seed Oil that soothes and nourishes, thanks to its high Linoleic and Oleic acid content; Rice Bran Oil, which is rich in Vitamin E – a potent antioxidant, and Rosehip Seed Oil that’s packed with essential fatty acids for smooth, supple skin.
This oil is lightweight yet hydrating, non greasy and absorbs quickly and can be used by all skin types. I like using mine in the evening, after cleansing, before I apply the Superfood Night Cream as it makes for a super hydrating skincare treat. To use, you drop 3 or 4 drops into the palm of your hands, rub together, then press onto the face, neck (don’t forget the neck!) and décolletage.
