I do love me a beautiful, classic fragrance that evokes the style and sophistication of the quintessential French woman. And that’s exactly what the new Orissima EDP by Ted Lapidus does for me.

For my younger readers, Ted Lapidus was a French fashion designer who is credited with pioneering the unisex fashion look. He was the first designer to put military style shoulder straps on both male and female clothing and is credited with designing the safari suit.

He interned at Dior, then started his own fashion label, Ted Lapidus. He gained prominence in the 1960 when Brigitte Bardot started wearing his designs. John Lennon was another of his fan’s and asked Lapidus to design a white leather bag to house a set of fourteen erotic lithographs he had made. Known as “Bag One”, the limited edition of 300 bags incorporated zips, handles and a lock, as well as Lennon’s signature in black. Lapidus also designed the white suit Lennon wore on the cover of the Beatles album Abbey Road (source: Wikipedia)

Orissima 1

Orissima is classified as a Chypre floral gourmand and has a vibrant, citruusy opening thanks to top notes of peach, grapefruit and bamboo. After a few minutes, the floral heart begins to shine through, and one really get the sumptuous heart notes of orange blossom, iris and peony.

The drydown is where the gourmand (edible notes) aspect of the scent comes into play with sweet caramel, lending a comforting character to this elegant juice. However, the addition of musk and patchouli in the base ensures the scent doesn’t take on a sickly sweet character, giving the final accord an almost hypnotic, addictive personality.

Orissima C

“I conceived this fragrance as an ode to the Parisian Woman. The idea was to paint a multi-faceted woman through the senses.” – Alexandra Monet, Perfumer

I also really like the simple, yet clever design of the flacon which takes it’s inspiration from city architecture to symbolise the many different facets of the Parisian woman. “The bottle represents a sophisticated woman full of natural grace,” says Marc Touati, the bottle designer. The gold cap subtly speaks to the rose gold trend, bringing a fashionable element to the flacon.

What I really like about Orissima is that one could easily wear it for day or evening. It also has good staying power and lasted on my skin for a good six hours plus. Also, on me, it just got better as the hours went by.
