When it comes to discovering the latest fashion, beauty and hair trends, New York Fashion Week is the go-to destination. Today, courtesy of TRESemmé – the official hair care sponsor of NYFW – I’m showcasing my 3 favourite hairstyles that were huge hits on the catwalk.
What I like most about the three styles below is that they are rather easy to achieve yourself, using the correct TRESemmé products.
- First up is the Grungy Tousled Wave
This style, seen on the Misha Nonoo NYFW SS/17 Collection is among one of my favourites. The tools needed to achieve this look include a hair dryer, curling iron and a wide tooth comb.
The products needed to create this look include the TRESemmé Platinum Strength Shampoo & Conditioner, TRESemmé Oil Elixir, TRESemmé Firm hold Hairspray.
TIP: Keep your roots matte and apply gloss only to your ends, this will give you natural healthy looking hair and shine where it matters.’ – Chris Naselli, New York Fashion Week Ambassador for TRESemmé.
Step By Step – The Grungy Tousled Wave
- STEP 1: Start by washing your hair with TRESemmé Platinum Strength Shampoo and Conditioner to restore strength and moisture
- STEP 2: Apply a few drops of TRESemmé Oil Elixir from the mid-shaft of the hair through to ends.
- STEP 3: Use a hairdryer to rough dry hair to create natural looking body and movement.
- STEP 4: Part hair in the middle to work in your natural texture. Pull one inch sections of hair at random from the crown of the head and use a curling iron to create zig zag bends.
- STEP 5: Break the zig zag sections apart with your fingers and lightly run through.
- STEP 6: To finish the look spray the hair with TRESemmé Firm Hold Hairspray.
2. Next is the Smooth Evening Blow Out as soon at Oscar de la Renta
If you have straight or wavy hair, this style is pretty easy to achieve. The essential tools needed for this look include a hairdryer, round bristle brush and a soft bristle brush.
You’ll need the following TRESemmé products: TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo, TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Conditioner, TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximiser and TRESemmé Firm Hold Hairspray.
TIP: “Carry your centre part from your forehead down to the nape of your neck and pull the hair over your shoulders – this way you can blow dry your hair from the front and will find it easier to manage your brush and control the airflow of your hairdryer for a smoother finish” – Orlando Pita, TRESemmé New York Fashion Week Ambassador
Step By Step – The Smooth Evening Blow Out
- STEP 1: Wash hair with TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo, followed by the Keratin Smooth Conditioner for a smooth starting base.
- STEP 2: Apply TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximiser from root to tip, applying in small sections, and using your fingers to work in the product.
- STEP 3: Create a centre part and blow dry in small sections with a round bristle brush, working from the nape of the neck up to the forehead – make sure you angle the air from the blow dryer in the opposite direction towards your hair for a smooth finish.
- STEP 4: After you finish each section curl the hair around your fingers and pin in place with a bobby pin. Allow all the sections to cool completely before releasing.
- STEP 5: Spray a soft bristle brush with the TRESemmé Firm Hold Hairspray and brush through your hair to tame any flyaways. Tuck your hair behind your ears and allow the hair to fall behind your shoulders.
3. Last up is my favourite style – The Personalized Wave from Monse
This style works well on wavy or straight shoulder length or longer hair. I love it’s sexy, laid-back vibe. To achieve the look you’ll need a hair dryer, 1-inch barrel tong and soft bristle brush.
You’ll need the following TRESemmé products: TRESemmé Platinum Strength Shampoo and TRESemmé Platinum Strength Conditioner, TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximiser, TRESemme Firm hold Hairspray.
Tip: “Styling should not be about forcing your hair to conform but embracing and celebrating what makes it unique. Use products that best enhance your hair’s individual texture and don’t be afraid to experiment and layer your favourites together to find what suits you best” – Orlando Pita, TRESemmé New York Fashion Week Ambassador
Step By Step – The Personalised Wave
- STEP 1: Start by washing your hair with TRESemmé Platinum Strength Shampoo and Conditioner to restore strength and moisture.
- STEP 2: Apply a coin size amount of TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximiser from root to tip, working through the hair in small sections.
- STEP 3: Blow dry on a low heat, running your fingers through hair as you go, to enhance your individual texture.
- STEP 4: Separate hair into large sections and curl each one with a 1-inch barrel tong, holding the tongs loosely for a soft wave. Repeat this process on all sections.
- STEP 5: Create a soft centre part and lightly comb the hair with a soft bristle brush. Be careful not to break up the hair too much, but create some lift at the roots. Finish with a light spray of TRESemmé Firm Hold Hairspray.
Next week I’ll be uploading a how-to video showing you just how easy it is to achieve this look.
My Favourite TRESemmé range – Platinum Strength
I do like TRESemmé products, and if I had to choose my favourite range, I guess I’d have to go with the Platinum Strength line. Reason being is that I colour my hair every 4-6 weeks, and subjecting my locks to this chemical process regularly causes damage. Also, the fact that I regularly (on an almost daily basis) use heated styling tools adds to this damage, making my hair dry and dull looking. The Platinum Strength range reverses the look of up to 2 years of damage, making hair stronger and leaving it looking shiny, healthy and beautifully manageable. The formula contains a ‘renewing complex’ that reinforces hair’s naturally protective layer, restoring it and protecting from further damage.
Of course, I had to also include the TRESemmé Dry Shampoo Instant Refresh. Now, I love dry shampoos and reach for them frequently between washes, or when I need to give my roots a bit of a lift. I recall that TRESemmé was among the first brands to bring one out here in SA (a good few years back), and I’ve been a loyal user since. This particular version works well on all hair shades as it’s translucent, so doesn’t leave a chalky residue on darker hair colours. And the smell is so lovely.
