Delft and painterly prints, monochromatic tones and nautical colour schemes, as well as that perennial summer favourite; white on white, dominated last week’s media launch of Poetry’s summer collection, dubbed, “House of the Artist”.

In line with the curated offering Poetry is known for, the colours and prints form a seamless whole with navy, blue and white or black interspersed with pops of tangerine and olive. Fabrics like pure cotton and linen, as well as linen blends and shifley embroidered lace remained true to Poetry’s DNA.

The collection had 3 distinct themes:

  • Festive and feminine black and white pieces.
  • Holiday wear with a modern take on blue and white.
  • Painterly prints that have been designed exclusively for Poetry in Paris.

In an extension of the clothing, the season’s footwear offers a balance of core and fashionable items with leisure sneakers, sliders, block heels, as well as espadrilles with up-to-date detailing such as white soles.

I adore these espadrilles!

Poetry’s new-season bags;  tote bags, shoppers, backpacks, crossbody bags and weekend bags were designed with summers laid-back energy in mind. All are spacious, stylish and hard-working.

“Our range epitomizes simplicity and quality, and is created for the modern woman. The brand has evolved in terms of textures and colour palettes, but still remaines true to its classic aesthetic.” – Candy Swart, Marketing Manager.

Given the light, breezy fashion and the event’s #PoetryInBloom handle, the venue was aptly decorated in fresh flowers by Alwijn Burger. Burger used the collections as a point of departure and echoed its colours, textures and moods in the installations that served as backdrop for the fashion and homeware.

OLD KHAKI

Old Khaki Low Res-15

The new Old Khaki summer collection might as well have been made with that classic tune in mind; “Summertime, and the livin’ is easy…” The clothing is all about comfort and relaxation – nothing too fitted, nothing uncomfortable.

Their womenswear collection this summer is aptly called ‘Wanderlust’, and was designed for women who are casual, at ease with themselves, young at heart and a bit of a bohemian gypsy. Items are characterised by faded washes, lace and embroidery, as well as Indian prints and subtle geometrics. Key pieces are wide-legged trousers and flowing fringed kimonos.

You’ll also find longer denim shorts, T-shirts, blouses and dresses. Many styles give a nod to the ’70s with details like fringing, suede, paisley and florals. Colours such as peach, lavender, navy, olive, white and stone add to the relaxed air, while fabrics like cotton, viscose, crinkle rayon and linen ensure you’ll look great and be comfortable.

Espadrilles, fringed bucket bags and large canvas beach bags all give a nod to an era when the young (and the young at heart) hit the road in a newfound celebration of discovery and freedom.

The launch was held at the new OZCF (Oranjezicht City Farm) Market site at the V&A Waterfront, which gave the launch a real festival type vibe. We were treated to craft beer, a juice bar, The Chefs Bench food truck (that served the most delish burgers), a DJ and bales of hay for seating.

Again, Alwijn Burger’s work took my breath away. If you’re on Instagram, go check him out. His handle is @blomboy. And, it’s not just flowers he works with, check out the installation below.
