Drumroll…The cult Clarisonic facial cleansing brushes are finally available in South Africa. It’s taken 10 years ladies! At this stage, you’ll only find them at Stuttafords in Sandton (but there are plans to roll out nationwide).
What makes these cleansing brushes so special, you may ask? Well, the fact that the Clarisonic has been scientifically proven to clean the skin 6 times better than manual cleansing pretty much sold me.
The Clarisonic cleansing brushes use sonic technology that allows the velvet-soft bristles to oscillate with 300 movements per second – yet is gentle enough to use twice a day (although I suggest using it one a day, three times a week for the first week). The result of the sonic motion is cleaner, clearer skin that’s less oily and feels soft and smooth. I noticed an overall improvement in my skin’s radiance and texture after just two weeks! But, what you notice almost immediately is just how clean and fresh your skin feels (without being tight or dry).
So much love for my Clarisonic Plus!
I was lucky enough to get the top of the range Clarisonic Plus (R3499) to try out. In addition to the facial brush, the Plus includes an extra attachment brush that can be used on the body. I’ve been using mine on the neck & décolletage areas and I can see a very noticeable difference in terms of texture. My lines (I have terrible sun damaged skin in that area) seem a lot less noticeable.
The two others Clarisonic brushes that are available locally are the:
Aria R2999 – read more about it here

How to use it:
- Placing it in its charging cradle overnight charges the Clarisonic. It takes 24 hours for a full charge. A full charge allows for 30 minutes of use.
- Use it twice a day – when you get up and before bed. The Clarisonic is waterproof and can be used in the bath or shower (just try not submerge it in water!).
- Remove your eye make-up prior to using the brush. It’s not advisable to use the brush on the eyes.
- Apply a little cleanser directly onto the brush head, or onto your face. Don’t use the Clarisonic with jagged exfoliating particles like kernel. You can however use an exfoliator with soft, rounded particles.
- Turn on the brush on. With the Clarisonic Plus, the nifty ‘T-Timer’ beeps and pauses momentarily during your cleansing cycle, indicating it’s time to move onto another area of the face. The recommended cleansing time is 1 minute – broken up into the following facial zones: 20 seconds on the forehead; 20 seconds on the nose/chin and 10 seconds on each cheek. You can however change the setting to a 2 minute cleanse, if you so wish and feel your skin requires an even deeper cleanse.
The Plus features 3 speed settings: high, normal and low.
To clean the brush heads, simply rinse thoroughly under water. Makeup can stain the bristles (this is perfectly normal), but will not affect its performance. If discolouration does occur (and irritates you), just remove and wash the brush head with soap and water. The brush heads need to be replaced every 3 months and cost R399 each.
