From the makers of Bio-Oil comes the Lipidol – A range of high quality, affordable oils for face and body. Eight years in the making, Lipidol works to replenish the lipid layer of our skins that we are constantly stripping away with soap. Once skin is regenerated (it takes about 8 hours), we then strip it again with washing. The developer of Lipidol explained that we are caught in a corrective skincare cycle, because of the above, but aims to change this into a preventative cycle.
There are six oils in the Lipidol range, namely; a cleansing face oil, a cleansing body oil, an after shower oil, a sunscreen oil, an aftershave oil and an overnight face oil. The inspiration for the bottle shapes and the colours of the products comes from children’s books. The colours are meant to be representative of the oils function and each product is scented with an essential oil.
The After Shower Oil (pictured above) comes in a clear bottle and is scented with Chamomile essential oil. It works to supplement the skin’s natural oily layer (the one stripped away by daily washing) and is suitable for all skin types, even sensitive. I must be honest; I can’t smell even the faintest hint of chamomile, although my daughter swears the oil smells like olives. It does a good job of really nourishing the skin without leaving it feeling oily. I find it’s best to apply it to slightly damp skin, as this ensures you use less product. After two days of using it, my skin felt super soft and smooth.
The Cleansing Body Oil is my favourite product from the range thus far. Now, when it comes to body cleansing oils, the bar has been set pretty high – thanks to the Almond Shower Oil by L’Occitane, one of my favourite products. Every body cleansing oil I try is measured against it. The Cleansing Body Oil is scented with lime essential oil that gives the product a refreshing, citrusy scent. And I can actually smell it! I like that it foams, not radically, but enough to make your skin feel clean and refreshed. It works to wash off dirt, without stripping the skin’s natural oily layer. You apply it onto wet skin and the oil immediately emulsifies and lathers. It leaves skin feeling really clean, nourished and soft.
