I know I’m forever banging on about facial masks; it’s just that they yield such great, almost instant results. My latest obsession is the brilliant, (proudly South Africa) Exfoliating Masque by Dr. Gobac (R399 for a 50ml tube). I wouldn’t really describe this as a mask per se, it’s more of an exfoliator that has the sensorial pleasures of a luxurious facial mask .
This little beauty contains papaya enzyme that works to gently, yet effectively dissolve the dead layers of the epidermis. Also included is Vitamin E that feeds the skin, improves elasticity and is a protective antioxidant. In addition, there’s Retinyl Palmitate and Palmitic acid – both of which are easily absorbed into the deeper layers of the skin to help stimulate the growth of epidermal cells, strengthening the structure of the skin.
I’m a big fan of enzymatic exfoliators as they’re far gentler on the skin than granular ones. The problem with granular exfoliators is that they can cause micro tears in the skin – especially if you aren’t extra gentle when you use them. These mico tears can lead to infection and a host of other problems. Also, enzymatic exfoliators can be used on all skin types, even sensitive.
I’ve been using my exfoliating masque twice a week for the past month, and absolutely love the way it makes my skin look and feel. It has a very subtle smell, and the creamy consistency of the product ensures it spreads easily – so you don’t need to use too much. You apply it onto clean skin, avoiding the eye and lip area, leave it on for 10-15 minutes to work it’s magic, then rinse if off with lukewarm water.
Often, with exfoliating masks, one can feel a tingle on the skin (which I don’t particularly enjoy) – but not with this one. I love how it feels so comforting and nurturing when it’s on my face.
This is one of those products that, once you use it and see the brilliant results, you keep going back to it. Almost all of the beauty gals love it. Try it and you’ll see why.
