If you read my blog regularly, you’ll know I’m rather fond of sunning myself. Yes, I’m well aware of the dangers of sun exposure, but at the same time, I’m militant about protecting my skin with good quality sun protection.
Given that we’re always hearing about how dangerous the sun is for our skin, I thought I’d include some facts about the benefits of (limited) sun exposure:
- We get about 90 to 95 per cent of our Vitamin D from the sun. Vitamin D is essential for healthy bones and a good immune system.
- Natural sunlight cheers you up. It positively influences your mood through the production of serotonin – the body’s natural happy hormone.
- A lack of sunlight is thought to be the major factor in a depression. Just 20 minutes of natural sunlight a day can counteract this.
- The sun boosts fertility by reducing levels of melatonin, which suppress fertility. I guess that’s why so many babies are conceived in the summer months 😉
- Sun exposure can help you loose weight! The higher levels of serotonin actually reduce one’s appetite, meaning you eat less in warmer weather.
Recently, I received a pack of bergasol products. For those of you who aren’t familiar with bergasol, it’s a European brand that uses the latest innovative technologies in sun filters. I used a few cans of this spray mist last year summer and absolutely adore it. Because it’s an aerosol spray, it provides quick and easy 360°application and all-over coverage – even on those hard-to-reach areas like the back and neck. It always leaves my skin with an even long lasting, deep tan. My daughter loves it as it doesn’t leave any white marks and absorbs in an instant.
After Sun Face & Body – R150
The whole family love slathering themselves with this replenishing after sun cream. It prevents peeling and really nourishes the skin to ensure your tan lasts longer. I love the mild citrus smell and fact that it absorbs really easily into the skin.
Bronze Passion Dry Oil SPF20 – R210
If you like tanning oils, you’re going to love this product. It’s light, non greasy and has a lovely unique scent. It leaves the skin nourished and protected. I’d suggest this dry oil for those that are serious about tanning (like me), with a skin colour that tends towards olive. I just think very pale, sun sensitive skins that burn easily should rather opt for a thicker cream formula and higher SPF.
