Swimwear…While I love gorgeous swimwear, I’m at a ‘weight’ in my life where the mere mention of the word makes me think about my muffin top. Don’t get me wrong, I adore beautiful swimwear, but you wouldn’t catch me dead in anything other than a full costume. I do want to change this and have been thinking about starting a vigorous excercise routine and changing my eating habits for about 9 years now. The only problem being (obviously) I lack discipline. Le sigh…..
But beautiful swimwear, I believe, has the ability to act a a great exercise motivator. After attending the Maaji swimwear collection launch in Cape Town last week, I was inspired. Maaji is a Columbian swimwear brand that’s been hugely successful internationally. The driving force behind the brand are two sisters; Manuela and Amalia, who I had the pleasure of meeting at the launch. They explained to me they are avid lovers of swimwear and aim to create styles that inspire and enchant women. They decided to start a swimwear collection after they grew tired of the repetitive styles available on the market.
Maaji’s signature styling draws upon an unexpected mixture of prints, textures and silhouettes. The design team endeavors to achieve the perfect fit and work closely with women of all shapes and sizes, listening to their unique insights. Bikini top styles are available in D-cups, bustiers, underwire and flouncy styles to suit a whole host of unique body types, while providing differant coverage options.
Currently in store, you’ll find the Seaside Reverie collection. It’s inspired by a Mediterranean fantasy full of magical moments spent under a glistening sun. Graphic illustrations tell a story of colourful characters like party cats, dancing lobsters and magical tea pots. I love that most of the styles are reversible so, in essence, you get two for the price of one. And the pricing? Not cheap, but then again good quality swimwear never is. You’ll pay anywhere between R1500 upwards for a bikini or cozzy. But that’s in line with the other top swimwear brands on offer in South Africa.
