Issey Miyake is known globally for his signature pleats. In the 1980’s he raised the pleat to a new level, achieving a fashion item that was creative yet practical, timeless and of-the-moment, classic yet hi-tech. Such is Miyake’s technical and creative genius. The silk pleated dress below, created in 1990, can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art catalogued under “Issey Miyake – Fashion from the Twentieth Century”.
In 1993 Miyake collaborated with William Forsythe and the Frankfurt ballet to design a collection of costumes that would allow dancers to move. The ‘Pleats Please’ collection was borne out of this collaboration.
The collection rapidly evolved becoming more and more practical, lightweight and easy to wear.
Now, Miyake has given this iconic look and essence of Issey Miyake’s identity its counterpart fragrance called ‘Pleats Please’.

Pleats Please is a light hearted scent with a bright and very cheerful bouquet. The top notes can best be described as sparkling. It opens with the intriguing aroma of nashi, a hybrid fruit that’s part pear, part apple – very unique note, I must say. The scent develops into a fresh floral with warm and vibrant notes of peony and sweet pea. The dry down and final notes left on the skin a good 6 hours later is a slight trail of patchouli and creamy vanilla.
Pleats Please is available in a 30ml EDT, R540, a 50ml EDT, R745 and a 100ml EDT, R1025. Ancillary products include a 100ml deodorant spray, R515 and a 200ml Body Lotion, R600.
