I travel quite often for work, and over time I’ve learned that packing well — especially when it comes to beauty — is something of an art. As a mature beauty content creator, I have a tendency to overpack (particularly in the skincare department… obviously). But when most of my luxury travel invitations are only two to four days long, lugging around a large suitcase simply doesn’t make sense.

So lately, I’ve been refining my travel beauty edit: fewer products, but better ones.

For my recent three-day adventure on the  Hermanus Hop Experience, I think I finally got the balance just right. I focused on the essentials — products that would keep my skin comfortable, protected and glowing while I spent my days outdoors exploring vineyards, coastal paths and charming towns.

My beauty priorities were simple: a smart mini skincare routine, a reliable sunscreen and an effective deodorant. Chic, practical, and absolutely travel-friendly.

The Mini Skincare Essentials

One of the cleverest travel solutions I’ve come across recently is the Micro Minis set from Eco Diva Natural.

The Micro Minis (R545) is a beautifully curated collection of five of the brand’s bestselling skincare icons in perfectly portable 15ml bottles. Each formula is powered by African superfoods designed to balance the microbiome, support healthy pH levels and keep skin looking luminous — even when you’re living out of a suitcase. Best of all, each mini lasts up to 14 days, which makes them ideal for short getaways.

The Natural Face Wash quickly became my favourite travel cleanser. It removes makeup — mascara included — while leaving my skin clean but still hydrated.

I also loved the Exfoliant Skin Polish, which I used daily. My trick was to mix a teaspoon of the powder with a pump of the Natural Face Wash and a few drops of water. The result is a gentle exfoliating cleanse that leaves skin feeling incredibly smooth and refreshed.

The Superfood Face Serum is another standout. Packed with seven organic plant oils, hyaluronic acid, squalane and vitamins C, A and E, it delivers nourishment and hydration in a few simple drops.

Throughout the day, I reached for the Liquid Vitamin Hydra Mist, a refreshing facial spray infused with baobab, pomegranate and rosemary. It’s perfect for reviving tired skin — especially after time in the sun.

Finally, the Ultimate Face Cream sealed everything in beautifully. This velvety moisturiser melts into the skin and is rich in almond, coconut, shea and sunflower oils for deep hydration.

Sunscreen (Non-Negotiable)

If there’s one product I never compromise on when travelling, it’s sunscreen.

I’ve been loving the Vitaderm Photo Defence Tinted SPF50 R485 for a 100ml. This lightweight mineral sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB rays while giving the skin a subtle, natural glow.

It comes in three adaptive shades — Light, Medium (which I wear) and Dark — and the formula is silky and water-based, so a little goes a long way. It blends beautifully, evening out skin tone while leaving a radiant, hydrated finish.

The formula uses zinc oxide and titanium dioxide — gentle physical filters that reflect harmful UV rays. Because it’s a mineral sunscreen rather than a chemical one, it’s also suitable for sensitive skin.

A Deodorant That Keeps Up

With plenty of walking, exploring and outdoor activities on the itinerary, I also needed a deodorant I could rely on.

The Pure Beginnings Sensitive Prebiotic + Probiotic Roll-On in Naturally Happy R84.00 has been my everyday favourite since I first tried it in 2024. Gentle yet impressively effective, it’s a cream-based formula enriched with jojoba and shea butter, along with prebiotic and probiotic ingredients that help naturally balance odour-causing bacteria.

It’s also aluminium-free and certified organic — something I always appreciate when supporting local brands.

One tip I swear by: apply deodorant at night after your shower. When body temperature is lower and sweat glands are less active, the ingredients can work more effectively overnight — meaning you wake up fresh and protected.

The Final Word

Travel beauty doesn’t have to mean packing half your bathroom.

For me, the secret is a thoughtful edit: products that multitask, travel well and genuinely support my skin — especially when I’m spending long days outdoors. This little trio of skincare minis, mineral sunscreen and a hardworking deodorant proved that a well-chosen beauty kit can take you anywhere.

And on a sun-drenched weekend exploring Hermanus? That’s exactly what you need.
