There’s something magical about spending a weekend in the little town of Stanford. Nestled in the Overberg, with its leafy streets and charming cafés, it’s the perfect spot to slow down, sip on good coffee, and spend time with your favourite people. This past weekend, my bestie, my daughter and I did exactly that.
We stayed in the cutest cottage HERE just outside town and spent most of our time relaxing on the stoep, chatting for hours, and enjoying the warm late-summer sun. But on Saturday, we decided to head into town for lunch and a bit of exploring—and of course, I had to wear something that was both comfortable and stylish.
On top, I wore two pieces that I’ve been living in lately: a navy striped top and a cropped khaki jacket, both from Uniq Clothing by Checkers. If you know me, you’ll know how much I love this range. Let’s talk about that striped top first. I’ve always had a soft spot for a classic navy stripe, and this one is a favourite because of the fun pop of red on the neckline. It’s 100% cotton, which means it washes beautifully and feels great against the skin. Plus, it’s the kind of piece you can wear year after year without it ever feeling dated.
I reached for my absolute favourite jeans: the mid-blue barrel denim jeans by Desray. Honestly, I can’t get enough of them. They tick all the boxes—bang on trend, comfortable enough for all-day wear, and made from proper denim, so they hold their shape beautifully. The mid-blue shade goes with practically everything, and the cut feels modern yet classic. These jeans have quickly become my go-to whenever I want to look put together without feeling overdressed.
The cropped khaki jacket has a story of its own. I actually stumbled upon it by pure luck about three weeks ago at Uniq in Canal Walk. I went in looking for a summer dress, spotted this jacket on the sale rack—marked down by 60%, in my size, and the very last one left. You can guess what happened next! Since then, I’ve barely taken it off. It’s fully lined, beautifully made, and the gathered sleeves give it this slightly oversized but still polished look. The cropped cut makes it perfect for pairing with high-waisted jeans or skirts, and I just know it’s going to be in my wardrobe for years to come.
I finished the outfit with my trusty Kenzo sneakers, which are about seven years old now but still going strong. They were a gift from a dear friend, so they hold a lot of sentimental value too.
And of course, no weekend outfit of mine is complete without my Ray-Ban ‘State Street’ sunglasses. They’ve become such a summer staple that I feel like my outfit isn’t finished until I put them on.
Stanford was the perfect backdrop for this easygoing, classic look—comfortable enough for a day exploring, but still pulled together in all the right ways.
