New favourite fragrance alert!
Yes I know, every time I try a new Acqua Di Parma fragrance, it instantly becomes a favourite. The reason being down to how beautifully constructed all the fragrances are. Last year, my obsession lay with the incredible Acqua Di Parma Magnolia Infinita – you can read my review HERE.
This year, Zafferano has captured my heart.
Zafferano is the Italian word for Saffron, the world’s most legendary and expensive spice, often referred to as “Red Gold”. With this scent, the Saffron note lends a dark, leathery, spicy note with a hint of honey. The addition of Italian golden fruits (oranges), brings a luminosity to the fragrance.
Easy to wear, unexpected and sophisticated, with great longevity, Zappherano falls into the Amber/Wood olfactory family.
The top notes of the fragrance include Mandarin, Bergamot, Coriander and orange, all of which make for a vibrant and zesty opening without any overtly sweet notes.
Jasmine Sambac, Geranium, Rose, Saffron and orange blossom come together beautifully in the heart notes. While still floral at heart, the geranium and saffron add a very subtle spiciness which I adore.
The base notes include vanilla and Tonka bean, giving the scent a sensual creaminess. But really, for me, it’s the Patchouli that’s most striking in the final accord of this fragrance. I love the earthy, woody and slight musky notes it imparts.
Zafferano is an unexpected and bold unisex scent that’s not at all ostentatious. Quite the opposite actually; it epitomizes quiet and subtle luxury but with a sexy, carnal undercurrent.
Price: R4,300 for a 100ml Bottle
I must make mention of the attention to detail and the luxury shopping experience one experiences at an Acqua Di Parma counter of shop. Your purchase is beautifully presented to you in the brands signature bag, finished off with tissue paper that’s been spritzed with one of their fragrances.
