Veldskoen have just launched a ladies Gumboot and it perfectly fuses function and fashion.
Two weeks back I attended the launch of the hotly anticipated Veldskoen Gumboot.

The gumboot is a first for Veldskoen. The opportunity to diversify came when leading safety boot manufacturer Neptun approached Veldskoen co-founder Nick Dreyer with the idea of partnering on a new style of fashion gumboot – an unfamiliar territory for Neptun, too, who are experts in the safety footwear industry.

The combination of two leading footwear brands in their respective fields was appealing to the Veldskoen team and the preparations for the collab quickly commenced.

The gumboot, also known as the Wellington boot, dates back to the early 19th century. Originally designed by the Duke of Wellington, these boots were intended for practical use in wet and muddy conditions. Over time, the gumboot has evolved from a functional piece of footwear to a fashion icon, particularly in regions with diverse weather conditions like South Africa.
In South Africa, gumboots hold cultural significance beyond their practical use. They are famously associated with the “Gumboot Dance,” a traditional dance performed by miners in the early 20th century.
The launch took place at VUUR Goose Island restaurant, recently voted the 88th best steak restaurant in the world. The food was INCREDIBLE!
