Last week I attended the Veldskoen Experience grand opening.
What an event it turned out to be!
What the brand has done is so clever. Essentially, The Veldskoen Experience is a museum-style concept space that pays tribute to the iconic footwear incorporating elements of South African culture, music, art, and traditional craftsmanship.
The Veldskoen Experience includes interactive displays and exhibits that highlight the history and cultural significance of Veldskoen shoes, showcasing the materials used in their production, and demonstrating the different stages of its rich history and heritage whilst offering customers a unique and immersive way of engaging with their products.
Did you know that it was in 1676 that the word ‘veldskoen’ was documented for the first time by Dutch settlers in the Cape?
Me with the lovely Freya Bell from Veldskoen.
I’m wearing my Veldskoen Move Me Ranger Boots that honestly, are the BEST, most comfy boots I’ve EVER owned.
To mark the momentous occasion, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis officially opened the space that aims to attract foreign and local tourists highlighting South Africa’s world-class manufacturing industry. Hill-Lewis expressed his enthusiasm for this innovative venture and named Veldskoen “South Africa’s national shoe”.
It was such a joyous South African-filled celebration with performances by Hot Water and Mama Africa opening the event by giving an African Blessing.
David Kramer legendary musician, famous for his red Veldskoen, was in attendance and I managed to grab a pic with him.
Mayor Hill-Lewis emphasised the importance of preserving and promoting local artistry, acknowledging the Veldskoen Experience as a testament to the city’s commitment to cultural appreciation. The proceedings concluded with a ribbon cutting to mark the official opening of The Veldskoen Experience.
In addition to the museum experience, one is able to try on and test different styles and variations of Veldskoen shoes. Dedicated fitting areas where customers can receive personalised assistance from knowledgeable staff members who can help them find the perfect pair based on their preferences and needs.
The ‘Sunshine Brand’, otherwise know as Plakkie is also part of the Veldskoen family. These are the quintessential, proudly South African Flip Flop’s. They’re so well priced from R195 – R280. Check out the range HERE
I’ve been a fan of Veldskoen for years. I love this unique and South African brand and, as many of you know, I’m all about supporting local brands because they are the bedrock of our economy.
