Yesterday I celebrated 49 years around the sun. I consider it a true privileged to get older and wiser.

To commemorate the day, I was invited to a wine tasting and lunch at Bistro Sixteen82 situated at the beautiful Steenberg Wine Farm.

Steenberg Farm offers a selection of wine tasting experiences, with a Wine tasting Bar, Tasting Lounge and Outdoor Terrace to choose from.

We opted for the tasting lounge where we relaxed on plush, comfy couches. I would suggest booking the Outdoor Terrace in the warmer months – it’s set against beautiful scenery with infinity pools and water features.

My partner (fellow birthday Gal Antje) and I opted for the Classic Wine Tasting which costs R120 per person (BOOK HERE).

We started off with a glass of my favourite Chardonnay Cap Classique.

We then sampled a selection of red and white wines (four in total) from the Classic collection. Our Sommelier took us through the wines, explaining the notes and tastes. She also gave us a background of the farms fascinating history.

Next we had lunch at the chic and very elegant Bistro Sixteen82.

We feasted on Chef Kerry Kilpin’s special winter lunch menu: Hearty & Homely Lunch Special valid Monday – Friday from 3 May – 29 September 2023 for tables up to 10 people. Book HERE

We opted of the 3 courses at R424 per person (but you can choose 2 courses at a cost of R335 per person or 4 courses at R505 per person)

Nibbles included freshly baked bread and olives.

Chef Kerry kindly sent a little taster – her iconic Fried Calamari with a lime mayo dressing.

For starters Antje had the Pickled Fish Bao Bun with Crème Fraîche, pineapple and a tamarind salsa.

I opted for the Pan-Fried Chicken Livers with Kumquat salad, cracked hazelnuts and a chilli port reduction. Delish!

We both decided on the Ethically Sourced Fish for our mains. It was served on top of a sweet potato and aubergine parcel and as dressed with a red pepper vinaigrette and a feta and mint salsa. This as a hearty portion of food that really tantalized the taste buds.

We almost didn’t have space for dessert, but e forced ourselves LOL! Again, we both chose the Valrhona Chocolate Marquise on an almond chocolate biscuit with salted caramel, sorghum popcorn and macadamia ice cream. We finished every last morsel.
