If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you’ll know that I consider retinol THE number one anti-ageing ingredient. Why? Well because there are very few ingredients used in skincare that deliver such visible results in such a short space of time.

Retinol boosts cell production and exfoliates the skin (unclogging pores) while increasing collagen production which, in turn, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as skin discoloration. It gives the skin a more plump, radiant look.

When I learned that Neutrogena Retinol Boost – the number one over-the-counter retinol brand used by dermatologists in the USA – is now available in South Africa, I was thrilled and excited to try the range.

The range contains 3 key ingredients:

Pure Retinol – increases collagen production and stimulates cell renewal at the skin’s surface, diminishing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, dullness and uneven skin tone.

Myrthus leaf extract – known for its skin regenerating properties – has been added because it works in synergy with the retinol, boosting its efficacy by five times.

Hyaluronic Acid – hydrates and plumps the skin.

The Retinol Boost Day Cream SPF 15 (R329,95) delivers pure Retinol into the skin. This day cream has a lightweight texture yet is super hydrating, absorbs quickly and leaves no white residue. It also makes a fantastic makeup base and protects the skin with an SPF 15.

The Retinol Boost Serum (R329,95) fights visible signs of ageing like wrinkles, lack of firmness, radiance, dryness and age spots. Its best used at night, on a clean skin, before you apply the night cream.

The Retinol Boost Night Cream (R329,95) hydrates the skin while addressing the visible signs of ageing. It should be applied to a clean skin at night, either on its own (if you’re beginning your Retinol journey) or after applying the serum if your skin has acclimated to Retinol.

The Retinol Boost Eye Cream (R329,95) is a favourite of mine because it’s fragrance free (I have super sensitive eyes and any products with fragrance used close to my eyes irritates them). It diminishes the look of fine lines and crow’s feet while helping hydrate and firm the area. Use the eye cream once daily – I use it at night.

The Retinol Boost line is great for softening wrinkles, correcting uneven skin tone, improving firmness and boosting radiance.

A word of Caution…

Retinol is a very active ingredient, so you may experience initial redness, a tingling sensation, or flaking – all normal indications that the formula is working and fade within a few days.

If you’re new to using Retinol, you skin will need to acclimate so use only the day & night creams for 4 – 6 weeks, THEN add the serum & eye cream to your routine.

If you are using Retinol, it’s very important you protect your skin with a sunscreen.

Lastly, if you’re in your twenties and think you’re too young for an anti-ageing range containing Retinol, think again. Retinol Boost a great option to use as a preventative range to keep the signs of ageing at bay.

The pricing of the Retinol Boost range makes it super affordable, driving home the fact that great quality skincare needn’t cost a fortune.

Neutrogena Retinol Boost is available at Clicks and Dischem stores nationwide.
