Burt Shavitz and Roxanne Quimby created Burt’s Bees in the early 1980s. In their former lives, Burt worked as a photojournalist in Manhattan, and Roxanne was an artist living in San Francisco. Each left behind the harried pace of city life to seek—and eventually find—freedom in the remote, pristine wilderness of Maine.

The philosophy of Burt’s Bees is simple: “What you put on your body should be made from the best nature has to offer.” This philosophy is real because its grounded in Burt’s craft as a beekeeper, and the fact that honey is the basis of their products. Honey is (obviously) central to the Burt’s Bees products.

I absolutely adore this brand that doesn’t test on animals, are committed to responsible sourcing of ingredients, have recyclable packaging and a respect for nature (they are Carbon Neutral certified).

Burt’s Bees sent me a few of my favourite products and asked me to show them how I incorporate each into my everyday life.

I always have at least one Burt’s Bees lippie on my desk to hydrate my lips when they’re feeling dry.

The Burt’s Bees Mango Moisturizing Lip Balm R74 – BUY is 100% natural, made with Mango Butter & has the sweetest tropical flavour.

The Tinted Lip balm R74 – BUY is a favourite because not only does it nourish dry lips, it also coats them in a veil of soft, natural looking colour.

For a night out, I love using the Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer R74 – BUY that coat lips in luminescent colour. They contain Shea Butter & antioxidant-rich Fruit Oil that moisturise, nourish & soften the pout.

As a cuticle picker (I know, hideous habit!), I have to pay attention to my ravaged cuticles.

Every night before bed, I apply some of the Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream R125 – BUY to restore my nails & cuticles. I love that this formula actually nourishes dry nails as well as softening cuticles. It’s been a favourite of mine for years.

Burt’s Bees products are available to purchase at Dischem & on takealot.com
