Looking for an affordable Brightening Range that also addresses the signs of ageing? Let’s be honest, who isn’t?

I was THRILLED to discover the Neutrogena Bright Boost range, which not only addresses skin dullness and uneven tone, but also targets the first signs of ageing like dark spots and fine lines.

The key ingredient in the range is the very effective, clinically proven, Neoglucosamine (an ingredient usually found in very expensive skin care ranges). It’s a gentle amino sugar that boosts surface cell turnover by a whopping 10X to targeting dullness, dark spots and pigmentation. This multi-tasking ingredient also promotes the formation of collagen and hyaluronic acid in the skin to improve the look of fine lines.

There is also Glycolic and Mandelic AHA’s that help resurface the skin by dislodging dead skin cells and accelerating surface cell turnover.

PHA’s (Polyhydroxy acids) also exfoliate, but on the skin’s surface to even tone & texture. Vitamins C and E provide the skin with antioxidants that not only protect, but help even skin tone. There’s also Moringa Seed Extract that has nutrients and vitamins that the skin loves, and Turmeric Extract – an anti-inflammatory – that calms skin inflammation while reducing any redness.

What causes dull skin?

Our cell turnover rate starts to slow down when we reach our mid-twenties. This means the fresh, new cells that ensure our skin looks luminous, take a longer time to resurface (exfoliate). As these dead skin cells accumulate on the skin, the complexion can take on a dull, less even toned appearance (that’s why it’s so important to exfoliate). Add to this stress, lack of sleep, not removing makeup properly, neglecting to apply sunscreen diligently (which results in sun damage) and the results are dull, uneven skin, maybe even breakouts which leave dark marks.

The Neutrogena Bright Boost range claims to give you brighter, more even skin in just one week. So, of course I put it to the test.

There are four products in the Bright Boost range:

Bright Boost Resurfacing Polish (R149.95) – BUY

Bright Boost Illuminating Serum (R239.95) – BUY

Bright Boost Gel Cream (R199.95) – BUY

Bright Boost SPF 30 Gel Fluid (R199.95) – BUY

The Neutrogena Bright Boost Resurfacing Polish has very quickly become a favourite! It works to help activate the skin’s natural repair process and has 3X the power of a regular scrub. It’s worth remembering that not only do exfoliators remove dead skin cells, they also ensure the products you use thereafter penetrate so much deeper into the skin – thus making them even more effective. This scrub is enriched with gentle Mandelic and Glycolic AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids) as well as natural cellulose exfoliators – the micro beads you feel when your use the scrub. Because these micro-beads are natural, they don’t cause any environmental issues.

This white, creamy scrub should be gently massaged onto wet skin, using a circular motion, for about a minute before rinsing off. It’s recommended you use it 1 – 3 times a week (I use it 3 x weekly).

The hero product in the Bright Boost Range is undoubtedly the Illuminating serum. Aside from the gorgeous packaging, this serum contains the highest of Neoglucosamine of all the products in the range, so really gets to work brightening the skin. There’s also calming Turmeric extract to target any redness. You apply this serum daily (I like to use it in the morning) on clean skin and allow it to absorb fully before applying your moisturiser. It has great slip that makes it easy to apply, ensuring a small amount really goes a long way. I’m very impressed by the effectiveness of this serum that is also so very gentle and can be used on all skin types.

Another favourite is the Bright Boost Gel Cream. Now, I ADORE a gel formula and this one has a wonderful nourishing, yet lightweight texture. Again, the formulation contains the key ingredient Neoglucosamine as well as AHA and PHA. This gel cream boosts surface cell turnover by 10X and is the moisturiser for you if you want even skin tone, smooth skin and a reduction in dark spots. Because it has no SPF, you can use it morning and evening. I LOVE it!

When using a range to help brighten the skin, it is imperative that you use a good sunscreen! The Bright Boost SPF 30 Gel Fluid provides the skin with both UVA / UVB broad spectrum protection while also activating the skin’s natural renewal process. Again, this sunscreen contains Neoglucosamine and Moringa Seed extract, Vitamins C & E. I mean, what more could one possibly ask for in a sunscreen? I really like the lightweight texture and the fact that this sunscreen makes an excellent base for makeup.

Tip: Remember to apply your sunscreen onto your neck & the tips of your ears – these areas are also exposed to the sun and are too often neglected!

So, did I notice a difference after using the products for just one week?

Yes, I did – quite a noticeable difference in my skin’s texture and luminosity. I know that to see an improvement in pigmentation, I’ll need to use the range a little while longer, but I’m optimistic that I’ll see visible results.

I think given how affordable this range is – considering the excellent active ingredients it contains – it is a wonderful choice for someone looking for a comprehensive skin care line to address early ageing, brighten the skin and address dark marks. Also, the packaging is so beautiful that you will want to display these products.
