Eleven 2 Skin Food is a new, local, Cape Town based skincare brand owned by Sharon Jansen van Vuuren and her daughter Leigh. This dynamic mom & daughter duo decided to start a skincare brand, when they became frustrated at the lack of natural and organic skincare available locally. This led them to developing Eleven 2 – a totally natural skincare line that uses only the highest performing botanicals. All ingredients used in the formulas are super gentle, won’t irritate and include healing properties – ensuring the skin is nourished and cared for. The range is free of synthetic and artificial fragrances and all products come in recyclable glass packaging. All the products are so well priced, given just how lovely the feel & perform on the skin.
With clean beauty on the rise, Eleven 2 Skin Food makes it easy for conscious consumers to purchase skincare that’s ethically sound and hasn’t been tested on, or harmed any animals.
I received a whole box full of the most stunning products from the brand. Below is an overview of the products.
Anti-Aging Cream (R250) – BUY
This is a luxurious and rich multifunctional moisturiser that’s suitable for dry and mature skin types. It contains a botanical complex that combines plants selected to help activate skin micro-circulation & protect against free radicals. The formula contains no fragrance (yay) and applies really nicely, nourishing well without any greasiness. You can use this moisturiser day or evening as there’s no SPF included.
Antioxidant Face Mask (R330) – BUY
This is essentially a two-in-one mask and exfoliator. A powerful blend of antioxidant ingredients works together to effectively cleanse, unclog pores & remove dead skin cells.
Licorice Root helps to even skin tone and renew texture, while Vitamin C brightens the skin. A Hibiscus Flower extract has been added because it’s a natural source of alpha-hydroxy acids – ensuring a gentle yet effective exfoliation that’s great at unblocking pores.
Add about a teaspoon of powder into the palm of your hand and mix with a little water to form a paste. Apply to skin for 5-10 minutes, then remove using circular movement while rinsing with water.
Rosehip Concentrate (R330) – BUY
I do love a rosehip serum because I know how effective it can be in hydrating & protecting the skin. Rosehip is also a great antioxidant and helps restore elasticity & rejuvenate the skin. It even helps reduce the appearance of scars and dark spots. Apply a drop or two into your moisturiser (this is how I use it), or directly onto clean skin, dry skin.
Niacinamide B3 + B5 (R300) – BUY
Niacinamide is an ideal ingredient if you want to brighten your skin, improve its texture and minimize the look of enlarged pores. It also helps regulate oil production, so is well suited to combination & oily skin types. Added to that, Niacinamide helps with hyperpigmentation and also can minimize fine lines & wrinkles.
To use, warm a drop or two between your fingers & smooth directly onto clean, dry skin.
Squalene (R290) – BUY
An exceptional moisturizer, Squalene is super hydrating & calming on the skin. It improves skin elasticity & is known to help in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It balances oil production – providing just enough moisture to keep the skin clear and healthy. Squalane also includes anti-inflammatory benefits to help with skin conditions such as acne and eczema
Smooth a drop or two directly onto dry skin or add a drop to your moisturizer.
Gel Cleanser (R180) – BUY
This was one of the first products I tried from the Eleven 2 range and it took me by surprise! I Let me explain why. Usually, cleansing formulas that are termed ‘natural’ don’t lather well and I find, aren’t great at removing sunscreen. I applied a little of this cleanser into my palm, then mixed it with water and applied to my dry skin (I was washing my face over the basin in my bathroom). I then removed it using a washcloth. I was so taken aback by how well it foamed, effectively cleansed my skin and how hydrated my skin felt once I rinsed the formula off. I really, really like it a lot.
The formula is enriched with Jojoba to gently cleanse & purify without stripping the skin of its protective barrier. It’s suitable to use on all skin types and I highly recommend it!
Oil Cleanser (R160) – BUY
Another formula I love. I would choose this one if I was wearing a full face of makeup and I like how it transforms from an oil to milk. I use a pump or two and rub the oil into my face (eyes include – I keep them closed), then add water, which turns the formula into a milk. I then remove with a washcloth. And guess what? Every single bit of makeup is removed – including long wearing foundation & mascara. The formula contains organic, non-comedogenic oils specifically chosen for their anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. This cleanser is great for all skin types including oily & acne prone skin types.
Radiant Eye Oil (R140) – BUY
In general, I’m skeptical about eye creams. Also, because I have sensitive eyes, I’m cautious about applying oils close to my eyes, so I approached this product with caution.
I use only a drop that I warm between my fingers, then lightly pat it underneath the eyes. I found it did hydrate well, but because I don’t generally struggle with dark circles or puffiness, I can’t really comment on whether this eye oil was effective in dealing with these issues.
The formula contains Coffee Bean Oil – known to tighten the skin and eliminates excess fluid responsible for dark circles and puffiness in the under-eye area. Rosehip seed oil gives antioxidant protection, while Vitamin C helps reduce dark circles.
