Last week’s daily fragrance roundup was so well received, I’ve decided to do another themed 5-day focus.
This week, I’ve chatting about 5 cleansers I really like on my social media and now I’m including them in a blog post, because I know there are still many of you who still read this blog.
I’d like to introduce the first product by inviting to dream a little.
Imagine money was no object and you could spend R5K on a cleansing ritual.
Yes, you read the correctly, R5K.
What kind of cleansing products could possibly warrant that kind of spend?
Let me explain….
The Sensai Ultimate Cleansing Ritual is all about elevating the act of cleansing your skin into that of a moment of luxury.
SENSAI Skincare “Saho” is a skincare ritual inspired by the Saho code of etiquette for the Japanese tea ceremony. It helps to achieve flawless silky skin by Double Cleansing.
SENSAI proposes the importance of the right things done the right way, in the right order – VERY Japanese.
The first product from the Sensai Ultimate range is The Cleansing Oil (R2335)
It works to gently soak & release makeup’s hold on the skin. By soaking the skin in its rich essence-like oil, makeup is effortlessly dissolved. Upon application, the oil spreads smoothly to lift off makeup without disrupting the skin’s moisture barrier.
Apply two to three pumps of the oil onto the face and massaging in allowing the formula to effectively melt off your makeup. As you rinse the oil off with cold or lukewarm water, it emulsifies into a milky consistency.
The second step of the Ultimate ritual includes washing with The Creamy Soap (R2805)
The formula is used along with the original cleansing brush (pictured & included with the purchase of the soap).
Apply a little of the Cream Soap (as with the oil, a small amount goes a VERY long way) onto the face, avoiding the eye area. Dampen the brush, then, using circular movements, whisk into a fine lather, then rinse off. The Creamy Soap works to draw any impurities out the skin.
Both ‘The Creamy Soap’ and ‘The Cleansing Oil’ contain a special blend of Sakura Eternal Complex (from Japanese Cherry blossom extract) that works to address the visible signs of ageing, adding radiance to the skin. Both products have a very light fragrance, but it’s very subtle and comforting.
This is luxury beauty at it’s very best. Affordable? No! But then again, nothing this luxe comes cheap. Would I drop R5K on a cleanser? A loaded question, I guess given I’m a beauty editor. If I had the spare cash, hell yeah. I guess one could ask the same about dropping R6K on a Jo Malone Candle or Tom Ford scent. If it appeals to you, go for it!

I do love Justine products so very much! Theirs was one of the first ever skincare I used as a young adult. I love that they are a proudly South Africa brand with affordable products that work! The brand recently sent me a box packed to the brim with skincare goodies (I will get around to showcasing them all) and this DIVINE face wash was part of that drop.
The Justine A-Firm 2-in-1 Cleansing Toning Gel (R175) is an anti-ageing cleanser and toner in one. The formula helps to cleanse, exfoliate and rejuvenate fatigued-looking skin, while restoring the skin’s pH balance. It also works to tighten pores and refine the skin’s texture.
Because of its exfoliating action, it helps to prep skin to receive maximum anti-ageing skincare benefits from moisturisers and serums applied thereafter.
Ingredient wise, there’s Corn Germ Extract, Crepe Myrtle Extract, Sunflower Seed Extract, Cotton Seed Oil and Eclipta Prostrata Extract – all really gentle yet effective ingredients.
The product does have a very mild scent, but it’s allergy and dermatologically tested, so should be fine for even sensitive skin.
You only need a small amount to cleanse the skin, so a tube will last a good two months.
This is such a pleasant face wash to use and is SO very pretty to look at too!

The next cleanser focus is by French brand Esthederm. The Osmoclean Pure Cleansing Foam (R518) is a fresh, light foaming cleanser that removes make-up and impurities from combination and oily skins with imperfections.
The whipped, mousse texture is just sublime and delicately scented. It does a great job of cleansing the skin of oil and impurities. If you use waterproof mascara, I’d suggest using a separate eye makeup remover as this foam may not be potent enough. Use it twice daily, paying attention to areas on the face like forehead, nose & chin that tend to get really oily.Bottom of Form

I’m really enjoying the Sorbet 365 Essentials Multicleanse (R180 for a 75ml) that not only removes all makeup (not eye makeup – use a separate eye makeup remover for that), but also deep cleans & gently exfoliates. I like that the formula is fragrance free and doesn’t foam too much
The 75ml size is also superb for travel because it’s small & compact. There is a big 300ml size available.
The formula is infused with multi-functional acids that work to gently exfoliate and brighten the skin. Use twice daily by massaging a little product onto dampened face & neck.
You can purchase the Sorbet 365 Essentials Multicleanse at Sorbet outlets nationwide.
Gatineau Melatogenine Refreshing Cleansing Cream (R618 but Woolworths is running a special and it’s now priced at R488 – BUY) is a triple action, anti-ageing formula designed to cleanse, tone and micro-exfoliate the skin. It’s a water-soluble creamy cleanser that removes all traces of make-up and impurities whilst dissolving all toxins that cling to the inside of the pores.
The formula is enriched with the brands exclusive youth activating molecule Mélatogénine, that works to reduce the appearance of lines & wrinkles. Sweet Almond Oil has been added to nourish & soften the skin, while a host of gentle cleansing agents eliminate dirt, makeup & impurities. I would recommend using a separate eye makeup remover.
This cream cleanser can be used on all skin types, especially those concerned with ageing.
To use, simply lather in your hands and apply to a damp face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Use light circular motions to gently massage over the skin. Rinse with warm water or remove using a clean face cloth.
Have a great weekend!
