Getting your kids into a good skin care routine of cleansing twice daily, moisturising and protecting the skin with an SPF can be quite the challenge.

If that weren’t enough, when they become teens (and sometimes even sooner), blemishes start appearing, and finding the correct formula to help combat them can be even more challenging!

My daughter Miyo-Jade is 17 years old and helping her find and use the correct skincare for her concerns has made the world of difference to both her skin and confidence. I won’t lie, it has been a long journey with hits and many misses.

For the past two months, she’s been using the new Eau Thermale Avène Cleanance Comedomed Concentrate R310 – BUY which is formulated to reduce blemishes from 7 days of use and help limit their relapse.

The formula contains high concentrations of Comedoclastin (an active ingredient extracted from Milk Thistle) which works to regulate sebum production, while limiting the recurrence of spots & blackheads. Also contained in the formula is a 67.5% of Avène’s iconic Thermal Spring Water that soothes, softens and reduces any irritation.

Cleanance Comedomed has a gel-cream, non-greasy texture with hydrating and mattifying properties. It’s ideal for skin prone to mild and moderate blemishes and can be used morning and evening after cleansing.

As with all Eau Thermale Avène products, Cleanance Comedomed is SUPER gentle with excellent skin tolerance & is also fragrance free.

What Miyo really likes about the formula (other than how effectively it reduced blemishes) is that it doesn’t feel heavy or greasy on the skin. She loves how quickly it absorbs and how it stops her skin from getting too shiny (her words).

Below are pic’s of Miyo’s skin before she started using the Eau Thermale Avene Cleanance Comedomed

And this is what her skin is looking like almost two months into using the Eau Thermale Avene Cleanance Comedomed

In addition to using the Cleanance Comedomed, Miyo has also been using the Eau Thermale Avène Cleanance Cleansing Gel R200 – BUY twice daily (she says this one of the best face washes she’s used). The formula gently cleanses the skin while mattifying the skin & controlling the hyperproduction of sebum. This formula can also be used on the chest and back if breakouts occur there too.

After cleansing, Miyo spritzes her face with the Avène Thermal Spring Water R180 for a 150ml BUY. This is a truly iconic product – one I am NEVER without. It works to soothe & soften the skin while providing anti-irritation benefits. This is THE product to have on hand and use whenever skin feels irritated, hot or in need of a pep-up during the day.

It is so important to get kids into the habit of using a sunscreen daily to protect the skin from harmful UV rays. Remember, most of the damage that causes ageing is accrued before the age of 20 years old! Sun damage is cumulative, so the sooner your kid starts protecting his or her skin, the better! Miyo has been using the Eau Thermale Avène Cleanance SPF 50 Mattifying Sunscreen R280 – BUY that contains antioxidants and oil-control properties and is a great choice for oily and blemish prone skin. Remember to tell your kids to re-apply sunscreen every two hours when they’re exposed to prolonged periods of sun.

Teens and young adults have so much on their minds from young love, intense friendships, studying and career choices, all of which can all be overwhelming. Blemishes really should be the least of their worries!

I am interested in trying one of the cleansers for my son. The problem is he has perfect skin on the rest of his face; its only his nose that’s the problem, with blackheads and big pimples. I really can’t get him two cleansers as it was hard enough to get him to agree to use any products at all, but I am worried a anti-blemish cleanser will dry out the rest of his face. Which of the cleansers would you recommend in this case?

Hi Caryn, the Cleanance Cleanser will be suitable for him to use all over his face. While the formula does mattify the skin ever so slightly, it’s not drying in the least, and is very gentle. I even use my daughters one occasionally (and I have dry, very mature skin). There really is no need to get two cleansers. I’d also suggest getting the Cleanance Comedomed formula and using it on and around the nose ONLY to control the blackheads & pimples. I would also get him the Cleanance sunscreen (males like it because it’s not greasy & absorbs in an instant) to protect his skin from UV rays as well. Best of all, Clicks is having their 3 for 2 special where you buy 3 products from Avene and get the 3rd one free (until stocks last).

Where do you recommend to go for great facials in Cape Town and hair laser removal?
