I believe there are still many women who are unsure as to how serums work and when they should be using one. Also, amazingly enough, I still get women asking me what the difference is between a serum & moisturiser.

A moisturiser works to replenish the moisture content in the skin either by trapping moisture in the uppermost layer of the skin or replenishing its water content.

Serums, on the other hand, are formulated to penetrate deep into the skin and address a particular skin concern like lines, wrinkles, lack of radiance, dark spots, pigmentation etc. The reason serums are generally expensive is because of the way they’re formulated and because they contain what we call active ingredients (work to treat a variety of skin conditions).

I always tell women to purchase a basic, preferably fragrance free moisturiser without an SPF that can be used both day & night, then to spend a little more on a treatment serum to address their specific skincare concern.

I was SO excited when I received the new SVR Laboratoire Ampoule range which consists of three various serums, each designed to address specific skin issues. Best of all, these brilliantly formulated serums only cost R725 each. But let me not get ahead of myself (can you tell I’m excited?)

Ampoule A (R725) – BUY

Now, you guys know how highly I regard Retinol. It really is the gold standard of anti-ageing ingredients – for good reason too. Retinol, also known as Vitamin A, works to re-texturize the skin and correct deep wrinkles. It’s one of the few ingredients that yields visible results in a short period of time.

This 0.3% Vitamin A Pure Retinol serum contains encapsulated Vitamin A that gradually releases into the different layers of the skin, guaranteeing optimal tolerance even for sensitive skin. The formula works to protect against oxidative stress (thereby protecting the skin from the signs of aging), unify the complexion, stimulate the production of collagen & elastin, help with imperfections & enlarged pores and diminish the look of fine lines & wrinkles.

How to Use:

Apply a few drops morning or evening before moisturising (I prefer using Retinol formulas at night), or, mix directly with your moisturiser then apply to skin. If you have sensitive skin, allow it to acclimate to the Retinol formula first. Start by applying a few drops every 3 days, then if well tolerated by your skin, every 2 days until finally you’re using it daily. If the formula tingles or makes the skin red, use every 3 days.

My skin is used to Retinol, so I use my Ampoule A every evening. First, I apply my Ampoule B3 to hydrate my skin, then I follow that up with Ampoule A. Because the Ampoule B3 is hydrating, I find sometimes I don’t even need to apply a moisturiser after.

Ampoule A can be used together with Ampoule B3, but not with Ampoule C.

Ampoule B (R725) – BUY

Is your skin dry or dehydrated (let’s be honest, we all have dehydrated skin, even those with oily skin)?

The Ampoule B3 contains high concentrations of Vitamin B3 that works to soothe and strengthen the skin. This formula will hydrate, plump and restore moisture reserves in the skin.

Also referred to as Niacinamide, Vitamin B3 works to strengthen & restore the skin’s barrier. This formula contains 3 Hyaluronic acids, each with different molecular weights (medium, high & very high) that restore the skin’s moisture reserves at different levels in the skin. What I love the most about this formula is how clean & minimal it is (making it a perfect choice for those with very sensitive skin types) containing only 12 ingredients and no fragrance. This is a serum that we should all be using!

How to Use it:

Apply a few drops to the skin morning or evening before moisturising or mix directly with your moisturiser.

You can use layer Ampoule B3 with the Ampoule A or C (apply the B3 first, then the other after) or use it alone.

Ampoule C (R725) – BUY

As you may have guessed, Ampoule C contains Vitamin C – 20% optimized Vitamin C, to be exact. Now, Vitamin C is not the easiest ingredient to formulate because, in its pure state, it can become unstable over time (through oxidization). This means it loses its properties and is no longer as effective as it once was. To maximize its effectiveness, an optimized form has been selected. While the optimized structure is similar to Vitamin C and offers the same properties, it’s far more stable, meaning it holds on to its effectiveness, thus, the formula lasts up to 9 months after opening. Okay, science lesson over (I do love the science of beauty, can you tell?).

When applied topically, Vitamin C recharges the skin’s batteries brightening tired, dull, uneven, acne-prone skin & wrinkles to almost immediately reveal a more radiant complexion. Vitamin C is brilliant to even out the skin tone and can even help tone the skin. It’s also a great antioxidant, so works to protect the skin from damage.

I’ve recommended Ampoule B3 to 5 people now – all of whom are raving about just how effective it is in giving the skin a radiant glow.

How to Use it:

I use mine during the day by either applying a few drops directly onto clean skin or mixing the drops with my day cream. I use formula during the day, because that is when my skin is under attack by free radicals (unstable molecules in our atmosphere that cause ageing & diseases) and UV. I’ll usually apply my Ampoule B3 first, then my C.

IMPORTANT: While you can layer Ampoule C with Ampoule B3, you shouldn’t layer it with Ampoule A because retinol & Vitamin C actually cancel each other out.

Why a good sunscreen is so important when you’ve invested money is a serum.

Did you know that 80% of skin ageing is due to sun exposure?

That’s why it is so important to protect our skin from damaging UV rays. And no, it’s NEVER TOO LATE to start protecting your skin!

Also, certain ingredients like Retinol & Vitamin C can make the skin sun sensitive and cause issues like skin discoloration so investing in a good sunscreen will only enhance the results of your serum.

I’m loving the SVR Sun Secure Blur (R260) – BUY which has an SPF of 50 and the most AMAZING mousse texture that blurs imperfections and acts as a BRILLIANT makeup base. It absorbs in an instant and doesn’t leave any trace of oiliness yet manages to be still be moisturising.

It is the ideal skin care ally for the Ampoule range.

The SVR Ampoules are available to purchase online at www.absoluteskin.co.za or at www.riekiemedaesthetic.co.za or at www.shopfomo.com

You’ll also find SVR at selected dermatologists & salons. Find your closest stockiest by emailing info@filorga.co.za

Retinol- great for anti-aging and hopefully to help lighten melasma.

It’s Ampoule A for me. I have enlarged pores despite all my best efforts and I am at the age where lines and wrinkles are making their appearance. Retinol is an absolute need right now.

P.s. very well written post: informative without being confusing. Will be printing it and using it as a skincare guide. Thank you.

Ampoule C to help with my dull, tired looking skin

I would love to try them all, but probably Ampoule A would be my most needed right now.

Hi there , serums are my absolute favourite in skincare , I just love the results it gives. Vitamin c is always a winner for me , so I would most like to try Ampoule C as my skin has just recovered from a nasty breakout and I could definitely use this as a lustre boost to my skin.

I would like to try Ampoule C. My skin is acne prone and can definitely do with some brightening.

66 and a half, and started seeing more fine lines and dry skin. Would love something like these serums

They all look so amazing. I would love to try B3 if the A is not available. My skin is most definitely aging and dry so the A and B3 would be my first choice. I need a proper boost at the moment.

Ampoule C, my skin really needs a dose of radiance to counteract the effects of lickdown!

I would love to try Sun secure blur SPF 50 to protect my skin from the sun cos I work under the sun the whole day

Definitely the B3 foe hydration.

“This 0.3% Vitamin A Pure Retinol serum contains encapsulated Vitamin A that gradually releases into the different layers of the skin, guaranteeing optimal tolerance even for sensitive skin. Dont even get me started on the Ampoule B wow this serum will change my life and the way take away all my problems dry skin is my second name haha I would love love love to try this!!!

Hi. What an awesome giveaway..thank you. So keen to try the Retinol as I have not had the best experience with other brands before. My 50 year old face could do with it.

I’d love to try ampoule 3! It would help with my dry and dull skin (winter was harsh this year 😂🙈)

The retinol is at the top of my list as soon as I stop breastfeeding! Have heard and read the best things re assisting in anti ageing and I’m a firm believer in prevention being better than cure.

B : for hiydration and radiance. 💦 💛 💦

I’ve always thought that because my face wash, moisturiser and exfoliator were sorted, I had everything to make it work!

Turns out there is a product, (which Ive only recently started reading about) that provides a potent source of nourishment for our facial skin…..The Serum!!

As a virgin serum user – I would love to give the entire range a try …..especially the B3 serum with its hydrating effects that is promises to deliver!!

I am most excited tp try the SVR Sun Secure Blur. I am sun-sensitive due to lupus. This product would give me the necessary, needed protection while givingme beautiful, glowing skin.

Most definitely the Ampoule B3. Seems super hydrating!

Ampoule C 🍊with having to wear masks for 12 hour shifts at a time my skin is in serious need of some glow and revitalization ☀️

Ampoule C would be ideal for me as I have started to notice uneven skin tone and want to get onto working to fix that ASAP 🙂

I would actually love to try all of them 🙂 I have spent so much money on different creams that I never thought of using serums. The Ampoule A is one that I’d really love to use because even though I’m so young I struggle with heavy wrinkles around my eyes and I’d love to see how the serum works.

I’d love to try Ampule A to see retinol in action to help combat my enlarged pores and wrinkles!! It was the big 5-0 for me in May, so every bit of extra care that helps fight back sign of ageing or at least helps me to grow old beautifully, would be wonderful! 🥰🥰🥰

Ampoule C- I’m pregnant and my skin has become very uneven (pregnancy mask) and dull. Hopefully the Ampoule C serum will help brighten and even out these spots on my face.

I would literally kill to try the Vitamin C Ampoule. I had the most terrible flare up of rosacea when I had Corona which has left pigmentations marks on my skin that won’t go away. I feel very self- conscious about it.. and my skin was clear before. Perhaps this would help them…

Honestly…. they all sound so FABULOUS!
I would love to try them ALL as my skin is entering the dreaded 50’s with all the signs of aging.🤞🤞

The vitamin c one cause my skin could do with some brightening

OMG! I am so excited about these products! I’ve tried iSClinical but, while they’re great, they’re now SO expensive. This price is so much better. I LOVE serums! I mostly only using hydrating skin sprays and serums for extra hydration and a visible effect.

I’ve had breast cancer so I’m super strict about only using skincare products that don’t contain potential reproductive or carcinogenic toxins. I’ve just put these ingredients through http://www.ewg.org > SkinDeep database. Almost all the ingredients are a 1 out of 10 (which is brilliant!), a few are 3 and under, and 1 is a 5. I commend SVR for this! – I appreciate how hard it is to make non-toxic products that really work.

My skin is permanently dehydrated from living in Joburg so any extra moisture would be highly appreciated! My complexion has uneven colour from sun damage + needs daily protection from the harsh SA sun. At 47, I now have fine lines and pores that are growing larger….

I would so love to try these products because the natural skincare products I use mostly don’t have high enough levels of actives to be effective. Holding thumbs!

I would love to try the Ampoule B3 for my stomach dry skin.

I would love to try the Ampoule B3 for my stubborn dry skin.

Definitely Ampule C!!!
I’m a dietitian & my fav nutrient since uni days has been Vit C…
Also uni days were many, many, maaaaaaaaany 🙄 days ago so hence the need…

Both of them because they sound amazing and so affordable! But hydration is key so if I had to pick one it would be the B3.

Ampoule C to help even my skin tone!

Ampoule C to help even my skin tone and too add some much needed brightness!

Ampoule C……My skin is extremely dull and have absolutely no glow no matter what scrubs or creams I use…..I was told an Ampoule is the new James Bond of Serums…..Would love to win to this fantastic giveaway…..

I would love to try the B-3 Ampoule. I have seriously dehydrated skin, and none of the products I have tried seem to help. SVR Serums might be the answer I’ve been searching for!

Most excited to try the sun secure because it sounds so good as well as the ampoule C because vitamin c is so good for the skin… It’s just naturally anti ageing

What a great giveaway & thank you for all the details and how to best use the products. I think my skin needs to try Ampupole A for my enlarged pores and wrinkles starting to show up. The sunscreen mousse also sounds fab!

I am so eager to try Ampoule C which contains Vitamin C – 20% optimized Vitamin C.
This year has truly been something and we’ve become indoor plants. My skin has suffered the worst. I sooooooo need this extra dose of Vitamin C which recharges the skin’s batteries brightening tired, dull, uneven, acne-prone skin & wrinkles to almost immediately reveal a more radiant complexion. Vitamin C is brilliant to even out the skin tone and can even help tone the skin. It’s also a great antioxidant, so works to protect the skin from damage. Please come home to me and help me get ready to step out again with beautiful radiant skin.

B3 as I have oily skin

Serum A, the retinol because I’m OLD! The worst thing about being in my 40’s is that 50 is round the corner!

I’d love to try all but particularly the 0.3% Vitamin A Pure Retinol serum. I’m rather obsessed with skincare and I’ve never owned a retinol serum and I’ve heard it’s the most incredible products. #holdingthumbs

Ampoule B3 for my dehydrated skin
Thank you

Would love to try Ampoule C. Vitamin c is one type of serum I am yet to try…it’s a newbie to my skin so I’m so intrigued to try after reading all the good reviews of it

Firstly all of them (need it, must have, nee to have it, have to need it) but if I have to choose 1 – definitely A, my aging skin needs mega mega help!!!

I would like to try the Ampoule B3 in the hope that it really does hydrate, plump and restore moisture reserves into my skin! This would be pretty amazing as my skin definitely needs some restoration!

Definitely excited to try Ampoule B3. It’s the type of tlc my acne prone/pigmentation skin needs. Thanks for this. Sending love & green lights all the way.

Definitely Ampoule 1. I need a Lift around my eyes & jowls. Everything seems to be sagging & going south. 😢REALLY need it desperately 🙏

Ampoule C . I have uneven skin tone and this serum sounds amazing

I would love any of them. My skin is in desperate need at the moment.

Ampoule A… Bring on that Retinol!!! 😁

Heading into my late forties has been very discombobulating in terms of physical aging. It’s really hard to be a fading flower in a society that worships the proverbial bud of youth. I don’t want to be dragged into my crone years backwards cussing and swearing; I’d rather sashay in; making use of lotions and potions that make the best of who I am; and more importantly make my soul and skin smile in delight. I want me some of that radiant skin …. so bring on B,C and some sun screen. Id love go try it all!!

I’d love to try ampoule 3 as my skin is so dull because of my thyroid.

Excited to try Ampoule B3 for my dehydrated 40 plus skin. It really looks dull and lifeless and could do with a moisture boost.

Ampoule A – need some Retinol in my life!

Ampoule C

Would love Ampoule C & sunscreens, because my skin has acne & I’ve been trying different products so I think this one could help Me .

Ampoule C sounds amazing and I would love to try this to help boost my lacklustre skin, even out my skin tone and help with those occasional dreadful breakouts that occur because of my PCOS.

Ampoule C to brighten my skin and give it a glow

definitely the Ampoule C as I am beseotted with vitamin c serums and they do wonders for my skin, especially in terms of brightening and evening out my skin tone
