I still remember my first tube of the Iconic Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant. I was 16 (it was the early 90’s) and I had read an interview in Vogue with the supermodels about which three beauty products they simply couldn’t live without. It was my favourite supermodel, Linda Evangelista, who commented on her love for the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant – especially given how dry her skin was from all the jet setting back then on the Concord. I had to have a tube & I’ve been a fan since.
Fact: Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant was created in 1930 by Elizabeth Arden. What made it so effective is a combination of petrolatum, a skin-soothing beta-hydroxy in one of its first cosmetic uses, and vitamin E. The apricot coloured balm was so beneficial to her clients, Miss Arden used it to soothe her famous thoroughbred horses’ legs. Even its name came about thanks to a remarkable performance – a loyal client used it to treat her child’s skinned knee and eight hours later the skin was all better.
The Eight Hour range has since grown exponentially since, and today I thought I’d showcase some of my favourite products from the range that are SO affordably priced. Also, until the 15 September, Foschini are running a 3 for 2 special promotion, so you can purchase any three products and only pay for two. I mean, what a WIN!
Eight Hour Cream Intensive Moisturizing Body Treatment R476 – (BUY)
When it comes to body lotions, I’m VERY, very fussy. I want a formula that’s super nourishing, not too potently fragranced, absorbs quickly and, most importantly, keeps my skin hydrated the whole day.
The Eight Hour Cream Intensive Moisturizing Body Treatment ticks all the above boxes and also eliminated any flaky skin. It leaves skin soft and smooth. While it does have the iconic Eight Hour scent, it’s very, very subtle – almost comforting, actually.
I can’t really say anything more about this product other than I adore it.
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour X Olimpia Zagnoli Skin Protectant R315 – (BUY)
I look forward to the yearly limited-edition co-labs Arden have been doing with their Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant for the past few years now. I think the concept really does celebrate the endless versatility of Eight Hour – a beauty balm that can be used to shape brows, add shine to lips & cheeks and nourish dry cuticles (there is nothing as effective – trust me on this, I’m a cuticle picker!)
This year Eight Hour joined forces with Olimpia Zagnoli, an internationally acclaimed illustrator best known for her vibrant colors, curvy female shapes and bold silhouettes. The resulting collection captures the spirit of Eight Hour and celebrates its infinite uses, infinite fans and the infinite individuality of women.
“This collaboration was an opportunity to reinterpret a classic. For someone who works with symbols every day, it’s like having the chance to transform the Eiffel Tower of beauty.” —Olimpia Zagnoli
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour X Olimpia Zagnoli Lip Protectant Stick Sheer Tint SPF 15 in Cabernet R235 – (BUY)
I’m so in love with this lippie – not only because of its gorgeous, limited edition packaging, but also for way it leaves a sheer veil of colour on my lips while intensively hydrating them. This is a great formula for those wanting to try a red lipstick but looking for a more sheer colour. And, it works pretty well on the cheeks too, if you’re in need of a quick pop of colour there.
Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant Nighttime Miracle Moisturizer R480 – (BUY)
This is one of my favourite products from the Eight Hour line – one I’ve used many times before. Containing all the benefits of the Eight Hour formula, this lightweight, overnight moisturiser intensely hydrates the skin by sealing in moisture. It feels lovely on the skin and the addition of soothing lavender helps to relax and soothe the senses.
There is a lovely, calming application method that’s suggest with this product that works to maximize its calming, soothing benefits.
Step 1: Apply a small amount of moisturiser onto fingertips.
Step 2: Gently warm the product between fingertips.
Step3: Breathe in the scent of the soothing lavender to calm and lull senses.
Step 4: Lightly massage onto face in small circular motions. Apply product generously to other dryness-prone areas such as hands elbows and legs.
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Miracle Hydrating Mist R395 – (BUY)
I love a facial mist and am never without one in my beauty repertoire. Again, this is a mist I’ve used many times before.
The formula contains a superfruit blend that is rich in antioxidants and vitamins and works to refresh and instantly awaken the skin with a soothing touch of hydration in an ultra-fine spray. The superfruit blend consists of Acai & Goji berry extracts, Mangosteen, Noni & pomegranate fruit extract as well as coffee seed and apple leaf extract that provides relief to irritated skin.
Apply a little mist in the morning before moisturising, after makeup application to give the skin a gorgeous glow, during the day to pep the skin up, and at night, after cleansing. I also like that the size is TSA approved so this beauty makes the perfect travel companion (along with the skin protectant)
