I’m SO excited to introduce you to Afari – a new, high-end, South Africa skincare line.

Afari is the brainchild of renowned beauty entrepreneur Margaux Knuppe. It was Margaux who brought the concept of the beauty box to South Africa when she launched Ruby Box years ago (and, might I add, she was only in her early 20’s at the time!). She also worked on many local titles as a beauty editor. She is passionate about beauty & knows her stuff.

When she whispered to me two years back that she was developing a skincare line, I was beside myself with excitement. “When will you launch?”, I asked her. “Not just yet, I’m looking for a unique, indigenous, South African ingredient that hasn’t been used before for my line,” was her response.

That unique, indigenous South African extract is Bulbine frutescens, a small indigenous shrub that only grows in the dry valleys of Southern Africa. This succulent plant contains a gel-like sap in its leaves, which has been used by generations of traditional healers as a remedy for skin injuries due to the soothing, anti-inflammatory effect of the sap. Newly released scientific research has shown the plant has a lot more to offer; the sap has clinically proven benefits in the stimulation of collagen synthesis, a fundamental process in maintaining skin’s healthy, youthful-looking appearance.

Key benefits of Bulbine frutescens include:

Immediately noticeable tightening of the skin

Quickly and reliably minimises the appearance of wrinkles

Clinical trials have shown that wrinkles around the eye area may reduce by up to 74% one hour after use.

Scientifically proven to visibly lift and improve the structure of sagging skin.

I also love that Each Afari product sold directly benefits the women harvesting the plants in rural Limpopo, South Africa.

The Afari skincare collection is cruelty-free and only uses skin-friendly ingredients that have proven results. The range contains no parabens, mineral oils, sulfates, silicones, petro-chemicals or synthetic dyes.

The Afari range consists of 4 products: a cleanser, serum, day and night cream. Let’s take a closer look.
