Looking at my wardrobe the other day, I realized that the majority of my clothing is bold and bright prints with a few key, neutral pieces.

I LOVE prints, and think they bring an element of fun and interest to clothing. I also know that many women are apprehensive when it comes to adding printed garments to their wardrobe. It’s worth remembering that fashion is all about experimenting, having fun and taking risks with your clothing.

When done right, prints can transform your wardrobe from drab to fab.

So, how do you rock prints?

Below are my 4 top styling tricks:

Let your printed piece do the talking & keep everything else simple.

The gorgeous Green Churchaven Frill dress (R1400) is from Desray (BUY) and it has to be my current favourite summer dress. Because it’s a wrap style, it’s super flattering and will work on almost any body shape.

I also love the voluminous, three quarter puff sleeves (that hide wobbly upper arms) and the frill detail that adds a feminine edge. For day, I pair it with the white leather sandals and for evening, I’d wear black strappy heels and gold jewellery.

Dresses require very little thought and therefore, less stress. Just throw them on and you’re ready to go.

This Floral Namaqua Button Through Dress (R1400) is perfect for almost all occasions. Wear it as a dress, or pair it with denims and a white vest, wearing it open, like a kimono. I wear mine with espadrilles for day and bejeweled sandals for evening. It’s been one of Desray’s best sellers, so only a few are still available in stores. However, towards the end of next week, new stock will be arriving. It will be available in the same printed fabric, just a different colour-way that includes shades of coral, green and white.

Pair printed separates (trousers, tops, skirt, etc.) with neutral coloured pieces. Look for basics like a pair of well-fitting black or stone coloured trousers, a simple white dress, plain t-shirts etc. This will make the process of putting a look together so much easier and allow you to style your printed piece in many different ways.

I’ve paired this floral green print cotton top from Desray (R860 – available in stores only) with white flared cropped trousers (R1150 – BUY) also from Desray (BUY). I love the fresh, summery vibe that’s chic and elegant, yet still quite casual.

If you love it & it looks great on you, then buy it! And for heavens sake, wear it!

Life is too short to constantly be doubting your look. Style is personal and all about having a sense of self, and prints help enhance that through clothing.

I absolutely adore the navy & mustard print of this “Moyo” dress (R1700 – BUY) and the style flatters all figures.

It buttons down to the hips, and has a self tie wrap belt that goes from front to back. I also love that this dress has pockets, 3/4 turned up split cuff sleeves & a back pleat to the waist.

This dress has a beautiful fit & flare shape & is so versatile you could wear it the office, or to a wedding. Dress it down with white sneakers, slip-ons or sandals or glam it up with your favourite heels.

Which is your favourite look? Let me know in the comments below, I’d love to hear from you.

A special thanks to the beautiful Banksia Boutique Hotel in Rosebank, Cape Town for allowing me to use their fabulous hotel as my shoot.

The Churchaven dress is beautiful & fits you so well. I also like the green top.

Thanks Shona. It’s my favourite summer dress too. I do need to wear it with control underwear though, to flatten my belly #LOL #MiddleAge
