Spring is so close, I can literally smell it in the air.
As the weather warms and we look forward to hot, balmy days, why not opt for a brand-new fragrance to celebrate the onset of spring? I’ve rounded up some of my favourite’s below, and I’ve also included one for the man in your life.
Elie Saab Girl of Now Forever R1465 for a 50ml EDP
This is a beautiful, fun, feminine and joyous fragrance. It has top notes of lemon zest & raspberry, a Ross Cassis (rose-blackcurrant accord) heart and base notes of patchouli, Cashmeran woods & vanilla. I’d best describe Girl of Now Forever as a light fruity floral with a great staying power of around 8 hours. It smells seriously delicious on the skin and works for both youthful and more mature women.
Giorgio Armani Si Fiori R1590 for a 50ml & R1120 for a 30ml
However, I have to admit that the new Sí Fiori (Italian for flower) is my absolute best. I’d best describe it as luminous, delicate & simple – a bit like the “no make-up makeup” of fragrance.
With top notes of sparkling green mandarin & black currant; floral heart notes of Neroli & rose, and a dry down containing sensual vanilla and white musk, Sí Fiori is an easy wearing scent that will work for any & all occasions.
Carven L’Absolu R1595 100ml EDP
I’m liking this floral, oriental chypre scent a lot!
The top notes are fresh & sparkling but very sophisticated and include Italian Mandarin and Ylang-Ylang from Madagascar. Jasmine & Tuberose make up the intoxicating heart notes, while sensual patchouli, sandalwood & Spanish labdanum form the base. As I write this, I’m sniffing my left wrist and marveling at just what a lovely scent this is. I also adore the white glass flacon adorned with gold that gives it a very classy feel.
Narciso Rodriguez for her Pure Musc R2180 for 100ml & R1565 for a 50ml
If you’re a fan of the original Narciso Rodriguez ‘for her’, you’re likely to love this. Those sexy musk notes contained in the original ‘for her’ are still present, but they’ve been refined with a bouquet of heady white florals and a woody base. I just adore its clean, super feminine scent.
Issey Miyake L’Eau D’Issey Pure Petale De Nectar R1235 for a 50ml
If you’re looking to gift someone with a scent, you can never go wrong with Issey Miyake. The latest offering from the PURE line is the wonderfully translucent L’Eau D’Issey Petale De Nectar.
With this scent, Miyake wanted to discover a new moment of pure poetry: “Just a drop and nectar turns into a blossoming garden in a swirl of copper petals…” The top notes include pear & honey, but it’s the pair that really comes through on first spritz. After about 10 minutes, one really gets sweet rose note in the heart – but don’t be put off if you don’t like sweet fragrances, because the base notes of sandalwood, cashmeran & ambergris temper the sweetness and make the scent fuller bodied and almost creamy. It’s a real delight to wear. Oh, and I almost forgot to add that the bottle is inspired by a drop of water.
Jimmy Choo Floral EDT, R1095 60ml
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know how much I like Jimmy Choo fragrances. They are all so wearable, have great lasting power & offer pretty good value for money. The newest offering, simply called ‘Floral’ is a scent that is meant to evoke a feeling of springtime in the city. Top notes include Bergamot & nectarine which awaken the senses, while floral heart notes of magnolia and sweet pea give the scent lovely depth. The base notes ground the scent beautifully and include musk and sensual Ambroxan.
Alien Fusion EDP R1300 for a 60ml & R950 for a 30ml
Ok, so I have to be upfront here and tell you that the original Alien is one of my favourite scents. Because of this, I’m always a bit apprehensive of what other versions of ‘my’ scent will smell like. This one does not disappoint.
Aside from the gorgeous flaming red flacon (that’s meant to resemble an alien), Mugler calls it their most flamboyant take on Alien yet. And flamboyant it is with the addition of two new top notes; namely ginger & cinnamon. These give the scent a crackling & spicy opening that’s very unusual. The heart notes are a floral combination of Tuberose and orange blossom that give the fragrance a creamy, simmering appeal. Base notes of warm vanilla and white amber add a bit of the tropics to Alien Fusion’s very exotic personality.
Kenneth Cole Energy R1245 (available at Edgars)
Okay, I LOVE this scent and so does my husband and teenage daughter. It’s actually becoming a problem…
Kenneth Cole Energy is a unisex scent that can be worn alone or layered with the Kenneth Cole For Him or For Her. It’s fresh, clean, sporty and has a real sparkling personality. The top notes include neroli, orange blossom and magnolia, while the heart notes are tuberose and jasmine. The scent is grounded with an earthy blend of green vetiver, luminous sandalwood and dynamic musk. Trust me when I say you will LOVE it!
Issey Miyake Nuit D’Issey Pulse Of The Night R1500
The scent is meant to reflect the power of the night with its oriental, leathery and woody blend. It opens with a powerful burst of Frankincense, that’s perfectly tempered by sweet Tonka bean notes, warm patchouli and some amber. As the scent develops, sexy vetiver and sandalwood blend together with vanilla giving it a very handsome and distinguished personality. I’d suggest this scent for a mature man who’s sophisticated, refined and elegant.
Before buying any fragrance sample it and see if it works with your body chemistry and character. What smells great on your bestie may not work so well for you.
