Last week I was lucky enough to spend three glorious days in warm and sunny Durban with my Unilever family. We were given wonderful insight into all their brands, educated on various community upliftment projects and how all their brands are working towards being more sustainable.

One of the highlights was an incredible brand activation by one of my most loved brands, POND’S.

We were ushered into a beautifully decorated room that was awash with pretty pink light. As we all settled down, the one & only inimitable Thembi Seete (the face of the POND’S Age Miracle line and one of the founding members of Boom Shaka) walked in singing what was probably Boom Shaka’s most loved song; It’s about Time. EVERYONE jumped to their feet and started singing along with her.

But, we weren’t there to sing and dance. Rather, we were about to be introduced to the world’s first AI-Powered skin diagnostic chatbot!

New Skin Advisor Live (SAL) bot combines clinical research data with diagnostic technology to take the confusion out of diagnosing common skin concerns across 4 areas: uneven skin tone, spots, pimples and wrinkles.

Simply called ‘SAL’, the Skin Advisor Live Bot embraces Google’s Highly superior neuro-linguistic programming and BrightTex BioPhotonic’s (BTBP) DeepTag skin diagnosis technology to offer consumers an advanced skin diagnosis through an intuitive and fun chat.

BTBP’s DeepTag technology – a patented skin map technology from Silicon Valley – and clinical research data from The POND’S Institute will be utilised to deliver skin diagnoses of unparalleled accuracy and of a higher consistency match rate compared to dermatologists.

Using their highly customised diagnosis from SAL, consumers are able to select a reliable personal POND’S skincare product and regime recommendation to help meet their particular skincare needs. SAL is available in South Africa via Facebook Messenger.

We also got a sneak peek at the new POND’S Mineral Clay line that launches in September.

Three variants are available in the range: Pimple Clear to target pimples, Flawless Radiance to brighten the skin, and Pure Detox to exfoliate and purify. I tried all three and they leave the skin feeling fabulous. Unfortunately, I don’t have any more info like prices, but as soon as I do, I’ll let you all know (and maybe even do a giveaway).
