Huxley lends its name from the late English philosopher & writer Aldous Huxley. He is best known for his 1932 novel, ‘Brave New World’.
The key ingredient used in all Huxley products is Sahara Prickly Pear Seed Oil – a desert cactus and real wonder of nature. It contains unique phyto chemicals that provide intense hydration thanks to its ability to retain water. It also supports skin barrier protection against environmental aggressors due to a high concentration of Vitamin E (Tocopherol), a potent antioxidant. With a 61% Linoleic acid content, Sahara Prickly Pear Seed Oil ensures a far lighter, fast-absorbing texture with a greater moisturising effect than other African oils, such as Argan oil. It takes 1 million seeds and 36 hours of hand-labour to extract just 1 litre of this precious oil. Sahara Prickly Pear Seed Oil has been certified as a safe organic ingredient by Eco-Cert. All the Huxley products I mention below contain the Sahara Prickly Pear Seed Oil.
Huxley products are Vegan-friendly, Dermatologically tested and hypoallergenic.
Huxley Secret Of Sahara Body wash: Moroccan Gardiner R380 – BUY
My ultimate beauty spoil is either a scented candle or a luxe body wash! It’s understandable then that I was beyond excited to try this one that not only cleanses the skin, but also hydrates dry and sensitive skin. It has the Huxley signature scent, which I’d describe as herbaceous and fruity without being sweet or cloying. The scent is VERY subtle and comforting.
Key ingredients in this body wash include Sahara Prickly Pear Seed Oil that works to hydrate and Vitamin E, a potent antioxidant, that supports the skin barrier, protecting it from environmental factors. There’s also Hyaluronic acid to attract and hold onto water, increasing skin hydration. I was also impressed to see Tea Tree oil – a natural antiseptic – included, and Hinoki Cypress water that helps restore the skin’s natural pH balance. Moringa seed cleanses the skin without stripping it. It leaves my skin feeling clean, soft and hydrated. Such a beautiful product!
Huxley Secret of Sahara Essence: Brightly Ever After R700 – BUY
Essentially a serum, this beauty works to hydrate, brighten and protect the skin. It contains Sahara Prickly Pear Seed Oil and Vitamin E, a potent antioxidant, that supports the skin barrier, protecting it from environmental factors. Niacinamide helps with brightening and also improves skin tone & texture while Bisabolol, which has anti-irritant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties calm and soothe the skin.
I love the simple, sleek solid glass bottle and dropper. This milky looking, watery texture essence spreads really well and absorbs quickly. It does contain the Huxley fragrance, but you can’t smell it once it’s absorbed.
This essence is suitable for all skin types, even sensitive. You can use it morning and / or evening after cleansing, before applying moisturiser.
Huxley Secret of Sahara Cleansing Foam: Deep Clean Deep Moist R400 – BUY
I do like a foaming cleanser, so was super keen to try this one that comes packaged in the prettiest sky-blue tube. Aside from cleansing the skin, it’s also a pretty effective make-up remover that managed to remove my eye makeup (not waterproof mascara – rather remove that with an eye makeup remover) and foundation very effectively. One only needs a very small, pea sized amount of product. Aside from containing Prickly Pear Seed oil and Vitamin E, there is also tangerine extract (exfoliation), Blue Agave (hydration) and Blue Lotus extract to help reduce any skin irritation.
Huxley Secret of Sahara Cream: Glow Awakening R570 – BUY
This is a lovely, basic moisturiser that’s medium-weight and hydrating. It has brightening and antioxidant properties and can be used by all skin types. Like the Essence it contains Sahara Prickly Pear Seed oil, Vitamin E, Niacinamide and Bisabolol. Also included is SC-Glucan, a healing & moisturising agent that helps re-enforce the skin’s barrier. If you’re looking for a beautiful, basic moisturiser with added benefits that you can us day & evening, do try this one that can be used by all skin types (even sensitive).
Huxley Secret of Sahara Scrub Mask: Sweet Therapy R510 – BUY
This hybrid mask/scrub is one of my favourite products from the Huxley range and works to exfoliate & hydrate. It contains sucrose and walnut shell powder, both naturally derived physical exfoliants that work to remove dead skin cells. The reason I really like it is because it has a very sophisticated, quick-melting texture gel matrix system that leaves the skin feeling hydrated and smooth, not dry or tight. The product also has a slight warming sensation that one can feel on application. Use as you would a scrub, two or three times a week.
Huxley Secret Of Sahara Mask: Moisture & Freshness R320 (for 3 x 25ml sheet masks) – BUY
Skin feeling dry? This hydrating facial sheet mask soothes sensitive skin affected by a dry environment (hello, JHB winter).
Made from 100% vegetable cellulose (biodegradable), this skinny sheet mask contains thousands of micro holes that deliver moisture into the skin.
It contains Sahara Prickly Pear Seed Oil (moisturise), Vitamin E (hydrate & protect), Blue Agave (hydration), Blue Lotus Extract (calming) and olive squalene (protects & hydrates). It has a refreshing gel-oil hybrid formula that forms a barrier over the skin to keep it hydrated. To use, you fold the bottom pouch three times and push firmly until it pops, releasing the gel oil into the top pouch. Don’t be surprise by the popping sound when the pouch releases (this is perfectly normal). You then press down evenly on the surface of the top pouch until the sheet is fully saturated with the mixture.
I mean…just look at that exquisite packaging!
What do you guys think? Gorgeous packaging hey? And really, I can’t rave enough about the products. Don’t forget to take advantage of the free Huxley hand cream offer that www.dermastore.co.za have kindly offered all my readers.
