If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that Eucerin is one of my favourite skincare brands. I love that they are a pioneer in medical skincare and every dermatologist I know recommends their products.
Recently, the brand launched their new Even Pigment Perfector line that works to effectively reduce dark marks and uneven skin tone. It contains a new active ingredient called Thiamidol that has been in research and development for the past 10 years.
Thiamidol has the power to effectively fight dark marks at the source and prevent their re-appearance (with regular use of the range). The global trials for the product range are super impressive, with visible results after just two weeks of regular use. The products also underwent clinical trials in South Africa, and the results showed that 100% of participants reported a more even skin tone, less pronounced dark marks and a more even complexion.
What are the main causes of uneven skin tone & dark marks?
There are two: sun exposure & hormonal changes.
All types of skin can be prone to dark marks & patches of uneven skin tone, which usually develop primarily on the face, but can also be found on forearms and hands.
“Regardless of who it affects, the root cause behind dark marks is always the same: an increased production of melanin”, explains Dr. Ludger Kolbe, Chief Scientist Photobiology, at Beiersdorf AG. “Melanin acts as a natural protection against the UV rays in the sunlight. If, however, too much melanin is produced, and unevenly distributed, visible dark marks develop. Darker skin tones naturally have a higher melanin content and are therefore more prone to uneven skin tone, which is often further accelerated and exacerbated due to daily sun exposure.”
Now, being 45 years old, I have my fair share of uneven skin tone, especially on the left side of my face and neck. I think the pigmentation on my neck is so severe because for years, I’d spray fragrance there. Now, fragrance contains alcohol, and when worn on the skin and exposed to sun, can cause pigmentation. Obviously, this is a build up over years and years of exposure. I stopped spritzing fragrance on my neck after my dermatologist explained what was happening, and have since being militant about protecting my face, neck and décolletage with sunscreen.
On the 3rd of May I attended the Eucerin Even Pigment Perfector launch in Johannesburg. That evening, I started using the range. As I sit down to write this post, it’s been just over a month since I’ve been using the range.
The Eucerin Even Pigment Perfector Day Cream SPF 30 (R449.99 for a 50ml) is a great, basic day cream that isn’t greasy at all, but still nourishing. It contains Thiamidol and also works to protect the skin from UV rays with an SPF of 30.
The Eucerin Even Pigment Perfector Night Cream (R449.99 for a 50ml) also contains Thiamidol works to hydrate and supports skin renewal overnight with Dexpanthenol (prevents dry & rough skin and treats minor skin irritations).
The Eucerin Even Pigment Perfector Dual Serum (R599.99 for 30ml) has a dual chamber that contains the patented Thiamidol in one (the rose gold chamber), and a concentrated hyaluronic acid (excellent for moisture) in the other. In addition to significantly improving dark marks, this serum also reduces roughness and increases radiance. It is super lightweight in texture and absorbs onto the skin in seconds. To use, you simply decant some product out, rub fingers together so the two formulas can mix, and apply.
Here is a before picture taken the morning of the 4th May. Notice the uneven skin tone.
And this is a picture taken on the 27 May. I actually can’t believe the improvement!
This is how I use the products:
Day Time regime: I cleanse my skin using a Eucerin Dermatoclean Cleanser (you guys know this is my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE face wash. You can read more about it HERE & HERE). I then apply one pump of the serum to my face, neck and décolletage. I apply the Day Cream and even though it contains an SPF, I follow it up with the Eucerin Sun SPF 50+ (another favourite, read more HERE) for face.
Night Time regime: After removing my makeup, I cleanse my skin thoroughly with the Eucerin Dermatoclean Cleanser. Again, I apply one pump of the serum to face, neck and décolletage. I then apply the night cream.
I’m absolutely thrilled with the results I’m seeing after just a month of use and can’t wait to see how even my skin will be looking after two months. I’m so excited for this range because (as with all Eucerin products) it lives up to its claims, is super gentle and is clinically and dermatologically tested. There is a reason you’ll find Eucerin in just about every dermatologist’s office and that’s because THE PRODUCTS WORK!
