I’ve been wanting a cartilage piercing for a while now, so when Claire’s called to ask if I’d be keen to experience a piercing at the store & write a blog post about it, I didn’t hesitate for a second.
I popped into the Cavendish Square branch to have my piercing done. I was amazed to learn that since 1978, Claire’s have pierced over 100 Million ears worldwide and was immediately put at ease knowing that all Claire’s piercing staff are fully trained to ensure they meet all safety standards when performing a piercing.
Ear piercing is free at Claire’s if you purchase one of their ear-piercing starter kits, which includes a bottle of ear cleansing solution & a pair of earrings from the piercing line.
Piercing options include single, pair and multiple lobe piercings, dual lobe piercings, cartilage and nose piercings.
Prices start from R200 for a pair of basic sterling silver 3mm balls (I opted for these). You can choose from stainless steel, silver and gold studs in varying sizes from 3mm to 5mm plain or adorned with pearls, crystals or cubic zirconias.
It was around 25 years ago that I last had my ears pierced. I recall it being a tiny bit painful – for a moment – and wondered what level of discomfort I could expect with a cartridge piercing.

A Claire’s piercing is done using a fully disposable, single use, sterilised cartridges that requires no human contact. The piercing instrument does not come into contact with the ear at any time, only the pre-sterilised, preloaded cartridge, which is automatically installed onto the piercing with no need to adjust afterwards.
The ear-piercing station
I’m happy to report that I felt nothing, nada, not even a sting when getting my cartilage piercing.
Getting your ears pierced at Claire’s is easy and hassle free and there’s no need to make an appointment beforehand. Just pop into the store & make sure you have some form of identification.
