A red bag is actually a very versatile accessory and works for day or evening. Sometimes, it’s all you need to add an element of interest to your outfit.

I found this sample denim fabric dress at the Desray factory store a few months back. It was a once off and didn’t even have buttons sewn on. But I liked the cut and soft fabric, and knew it would suit me. As I was trying it on, Desiree walked in and said if I liked the dress, I could have it. Bonus!
When it comes to outfit combinations, denim and red love each other. A red bag would also work with black, grey and white, navy and white, navy and navy and white polka dot.

I really like the modern shape of this “Freya” top handle, ostrich skin leather bag R19 077 by Via Veneta available from Via La Moda. The handheld strap fits perfectly in my grip (as it should, this is not a shoulder bag after all!), has a solidly made and secure closure, inside pockets that lay flat, smoothly fitting lining and even stitching. You get what you pay for, and this bag is top-end quality. It’s also locally made, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

These limited ed Marimekko Converse sneakers were another lucky purchase off the old style36.co.za site (now closed). I got them at a ridiculously discounted price just before the site closed down. They are possibly my favourite sneakers ever.

I love colourful tights, especially navy, red and burgundy. Depending on how bold the colour, sometimes they’re all you need to elevate an outfit. Luckily these days they’re abundantly available – H&M, Woolworths, Cotton On and TopShop all have a great selection.
Hello Yellow! Just like a bold red bag, a bright yellow one works with so many different outfit combinations too: black, navy, grey and white, to name a few.
Image how cute this “Fern” ostrich and nappa leather barrel bag by Via Veneta at Via La Moda would look with a white dress or a blue denim jumpsuit. To give it a smarter vibe, I’d pair it with a navy and white striped pinstripe suit and a crisp white shirt.
I’m all about supporting local business, and Via La Moda has been making quality handbags and accessories in South Africa for 25 years plus. The craftsmanship is superb, the range extensive and you can rest assured knowing your money is well spent on a locally made, high-end item. For more, checkout the Via La Moda website HERE.
