I do love an effective beauty tool, so when the Scholl Velvet Smooth Electronic Nail Care System (R489.99) landed on my desk, I literally opened the packaging and HAD to try it immediately. Included in the pack is the electronic file (with 1 x AA battery), three heads – one for filing, one for buffing and one for shine.
If you read my blog regularly, you may remember me blogging about another nifty Scholl product, the Scholl Velvet Smooth Electronic Foot File last year – see post here – I love how it quickly and easily leaves feet looking smooth and fabulous.
The Scholl Velvet Smooth Electronic Nail Care System is essentially a nail file and buffing system that can be used on both finger and toenails. It comes with three different heads for filing (no.1), buffing (no.2) and polishing (no.3) that are attached onto the battery operated files oscillating head.
What’s great about this electronic nail file, is that every stroke is the same, which helps create the desired nail shape faster and with more precision than traditional, manual nail files. The electronic nail pen can be used at two different speed levels (regular & fast) and changing the heads is quick and effortless. Regular is recommended for filing, and fast for buffing and shining.
This beauty tool can shape nails into five different shapes:
- Square
- Oval
- Squoval
- Round
- Stiletto / Pointed
The first step is to decide on a nail shape you like and attach the file (no1) attachment. For best results, always move the file in one direction, avoiding that typical seesaw motion you’d use with a manual file. All you need to do is gently move the nail pen along the edges of the nail. If you’re doing your toenails, it’s best to maintain a rectangular shape (this prevents ingrown toenails).
The second step buffs the nails, evening out any irregularities like ridges etc. You gently move the head over the nail surface for a maximum of 15 seconds (I general, it’s best to buff nails every two weeks). It is recommended that you wipe your nails after this step with a damp cloth to remove any debris, (but to be honest, I never do this #lazy) before moving onto the last step.
To give your nails a dazzling shine, gently polish the nails with the third head. Using moderate pressure, polish the nail in circular movements, starting in one direction, then switch to the other, until you get your desired shine.
Finish off your DIY manicure by applying a coat of the Scholl velvet Smooth Nail Oil (R139.99) to the cuticles AND surface on the nail. This oil is great as it contains a 7-oil-complex that nourishes and protects cuticles and nails.
Replacement heads are available (I think it’s best to have a set for nails and toenails) at R114.99.
