hungover skin 1

I’d purposely been waiting for the appropriate time to try the Rodial Super Acids x-treme acid rush peel (R2000) and hangover mask (R1200). And by appropriate time, I mean hung over.

This past week, I had two evening events that finished rather late. They included yummy food, copious amounts of alcohol (even a spot of Dubsmashing with my beauty besties) and not nearly enough sleep. Although lots of fun, I awoke on both mornings to dull, dehydrated and very lackluster skin.

Rodial Super acids

On (hangover) morning one, I tried the Rodial Super Acids x-treme acid rush mask that uses French kaolin clay to draw out any impurities without drying the skin. The fruit acids gently exfoliate, retexture and brighten the skin. Also included are anti ageing ingredients like argireline hexapeptide that smoothes the appearance of fine lines and laracare that boosts hydration and improves the texture of the skin. Probiotic technology strengthens and protects the skin from external aggressors.

The mask has a nice texture and fresh scent. You apply it onto clean skin and give it a minimum of five (I left mine on for 8) minutes to start working it’s magic. After, you simply rub any leftover into the skin, then rinse any residue left over. After using this mask, my skin soft and hydrated and definitely looked brighter and more luminous.

On (hangover) morning two, I put the Rodial Super Acids x-treme acid rush peel through its paces. This peel is formulated with a variety of powerful resurfacing acids, enzymes and probiotic technology. It works to brighten the complexion, correct sun damage, even skin tone and boost radiance.

Three key acids are used in the formula:

  1. Azelaic acid – Great at eliminating spots and acne, this acid also kills any bacterium that promotes acne growth.
  2. Lactic acid: Smoothes and hydrates the skin.
  3. Glycolic acid: Improves the appearance of the skin by reducing fine lines, scarring and any inconsistencies in the skin tone.

Think of this as an at-home version of a costly salon peel. You apply 3 pumps of the product onto a clean face and neck, leave for 10-15 minutes and rinse off. I was expecting to feel a tingle of sorts, but didn’t feel a thing. When I rinsed the peel off, I was impressed at how luminous my skin appeared. I guess this is due to the complex of fruit acids and enzymes that brighten and refine the skin tone. With regular use, this peel claims to reduce the appearance of age spots, skin blotchiness and uneven tone. I also like that probiotic technology is included in the formula. This ensures that the product strengthens and protects the skin from daily aggressors.

I actually can’t believe it has taken me so long to try this beauty. I can tell you right now, it’s going to become a regular in my routine, I’m that impressed with the results. Yes, I get that R2000 is expensive for a product, but you really need no more than three pumps at a time. Used twice or three times a week, I reckon this peel will last about two months. Also, I love how instantaneous the results are – straight after using this peel, your skin literally glows with vitality.
