I’ve finally found a locally produced face and body lotion that ticks all my beauty boxes: luxurious glass packaging, organic ingredients, homegrown and efficacious.
Ladies, meet Skin Creamery, a proudly South African, organic skincare brand founded by Cape Town skincare therapist Hannah Rubin. I was sent a bottle of their divine Everyday All Over Cream (R260) to test out.
Now, you may think this silly, but I absolutely LOVE the idea of a moisturiser that can be used on both face and body. This heavenly formula contains organic coconut, jojoba and baobab oils that soften and soothe the skin, while essential oils of spearmint; Ylang ylang, vanilla and patchouli give this cream its lovely scent.
I love how quickly my skin absorbs the cream, restoring moisture levels and leaving it with a delicate scent. My 11 year old says it’s the smell of this cream that she likes the most, and the fact that after applying it to her body, she can just slap a little on her face.
Skin Creamery Everyday All Over Cream is hypoallergenic and noncomedogenic, so it won’t clog your pores, and the soothing fragrance is derived from 100% natural oils. It’s so gentle, you can even use it on babies. It goes without saying that Skin Creamery does not test on animals.
Help your moisturiser pack even more of an hydrating punch
As temperatures plummet, so does your skin’s moisture levels – which is why it’s so important that you look after your skin throughout the cold, winter months. Icy temperatures, wind, and artificial heating all play a role in stripping your skin of vital moisture and damaging your skin’s protective barrier, resulting in tight, itchy skin that’s prone to redness.
1. Exfoliate! You can make your own body scrub by mixing some brown sugar with a little olive oil and a few drops of your favourite essential oil. Exfoliating helps get rid of dead skin cells, and ensures the products you use thereafter work even better.
2. Give your moisturiser (face or body) even more nourishing power by adding a little beauty oil. I like boosting my body and face lotions with a little Bio-Oil come winter. It’s a wonderfully hydrating treat.
3. Steer clear of harsh ingredients that dry the skin, such as sodium laureth sulfate (which strips your skin of moisture) and artificial fragrances. Also, avoid very hot baths and showers – they dry the skin out terribly.
4. Look after your skin from the inside out by drinking plenty of fluids (water and herbal teas are best), and load up on omega-3s (found in foods such as salmon and walnuts), which boosts hydration.
