The new Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash couldn’t have landed on my desk at a better time. You see, not only have I just finished my face wash, I’ve also undertaken a Kiehl’s #ChangeYourSkin 28 day challenge. So, having a cleanser and toner to compliment my other Kiehl’s products is sure to be even more beneficial to my skin.
First, I want to touch on the iconic Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner (R415 for 250ml) and tell you a bit about it. It was launched in the 1960’s and is still a favourite. It contains handpicked Marigold petals, which are placed into every bottle by hand. Because it’s alcohol free, it’s super gentle. One bottle of this 50 year old, iconic formula is sold every 20 seconds globally. I’m sure you’re aware, but for those readers who aren’t, a toner is necessary to balance the skins PH levels after cleansing. It also removes any dirt your cleanser or face wash didn’t manage to. Calendula extract has incredible anti viral and detoxification properties, making it an excellent choice as a skincare ingredient – especially for normal and oily skin types.
It makes perfect sense then that the Kiehl’s chemists harness the time-tested power of Calendula in a new formulation called Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face wash (R395 for a 200ml).
Now, I love a good foaming face wash as it leaves my skin feeling clean and invigorated. Also, because I have a normal to combination/oily skin, face washes work for me. If you have a similar skintype, a face wash is a better option than a cream cleanser.
“The first step to achieving a healthy-looking skin begins with gentle, yet effective cleansing that protects the skins barrier. Harsh cleansers can damage this barrier,” states Kiehl’s Product Development Consulting dermatologist, Dr Adam Geyer. He goes on to explain that once the skins barrier is compromised, it increases the possibility of irritation and allergic reactions. Dr. Geyer says it’s imperative to use a soap free cleansing formula to maintain the skins barrier function.
There is no soap or sulfates in this formula. Instead, the Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash contains an amino acid surfactant that gently, yet deeply cleanses the skin with a rich, lathering foam. It effectively sweeps away dirt & oil. Calendula flower extract has been added to nourish, soothe and hydrate the skin. The formula also contains Glycerin for its ability to pull moisture from the air to replenish and help keep the skin hydrated.
I absolutely love it and enjoy its slightly herbal fragrance. Also, only a little product is needed to effectively remove all makeup and debris. I like that it foams so well, yet doesn’t leave the skin feeling taut and dry.
