MY 5 FAVOURITES

1. Clarins Beauty Flash Balm (R405) – buy it here.

This iconic beauty treatment needs no introduction. It brightens, tightens and adds radiance to the skin. I use mine one of two ways – either as base, before I apply foundation when my skin needs a boost and is looking tired and dull, or as a treatment mask.

I’m amazed that a lot of women I know love this product, yet have never used it as a mask! You apply a thickish layer to the face for 10 minutes, then tissue off. It always leaves my skin looking radiant and revitalized.

2. Dermalogica Age Smart Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque (R625)

If you’re concerned with ageing, dull, lackluster and photo-damaged skin, this is THE mask for you. It contains the following:

  • Vitamin A to increase elasticity & moisture levels in the skin.
  • Vitamin C & E – both potent antioxidants that protect skin from free radical attach, while nourishing and soothing.
  • Algae extract to moisturise & soften skin.
  • Licorice, Comfrey & Burdock extract to soothe, calm and decrease sensitivity.

Apply to face and neck for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with warm water. I use a facecloth to remove mine.

3. QMS Hydro Foam mask (R700) – Buy it here

Aside from its unique foam texture, this mask magically plumps fine lines and wrinkles while intensely nourishing the skin. It contains hyaluronic acid (that plumps) and silk proteins that restore the moisture balance in the skin. It’s also BRILLIANT to use on sunburnt skin, as it contains a very high quality Jojoba oil that acts as an anti-inflammatory. It can be used on all skins, but is particularly beneficial for ageing or dry skin-types. After shaking the bottle, apply the foam onto the face for 15 minutes allowing it to sink in. Remove any excess product with a face cloth or tissues.

4. Korres Pomegranate Cleansing Mask (R95) – available at selected Edgars & Red Square

I’m not really a fan of clay-based masks, as they tend to dry my skin out a bit. However, I absolutely loved this one. It’s been formulated with natural clay that absorbs excess sebum while removing impurities and deeply cleansing the skin. Also included is pomegranate extract, rich in tannins, that works brilliantly to reduce pore size and rejuvenate the skin. While the product is best suited to oily & combinations skintype, I found it worked really well for my normal/combination skin, particularly on my T-zone which tends to get a bit oily. I also really liked this masks creamy texture and fruity smell.

5. Filorga Skin Perfusion Global Anti-Ageing Mask (R670) available at skincare clinics and aesthetic doctors.

This mask is great for a more mature combination skintype . Aside from its airy and comforting texture, it works wonders to firm, plump and hydrate the skin. It’s ingredients include marshmallow polysaccharides and hyaluronic acid that provide the plumping and firming action. Babassu oil and shea butter work to deeply nourish and hydrate dehydrated skin. You apply it weekly onto the face, leave for 15-30 minutes, and then rinse off.
