denim JKT fave

The search is over – I’ve finally found it – the perfect denim jacket.

Without sounding dramatic, I have to admit that I’ve been on the hunt for a perfect denim jacket (PDJ) for about 15 years now. While I’ve purchased quite a few over that time, they haven’t lived up to my expectations – there was always something slightly off with the fit, colour, length etc.

I’m very specific with regards to what I’m looking for in the PDJ. It must:

Be made of good quality denim.

Have a slightly vintage appearance.

Be somewhat fitted with arms that are not too short.

Be cropped with a hem that sits on, or just below my waist.

Be a lighter wash of denim.

While this may seem like a reasonable wish list, you’d be shocked to know what a challenge it’s been to find ‘the one’…

But then it happened! I was sourcing for a big fashion shoot last week, and walked into Levi’s in Canal Walk Cape Town. There it was, hanging ever so perfectly in the women’s section – just begging me to buy it. For a price of R799, it wasn’t cheap, but knowing the fashion mileage I’d get from this item, the cost seemed appropriate. I was so overwhelmed with excitement and giddiness; the store manager must have thought I was a little a little mad. I couldn’t help telling her how long I’d been searching for the PDJ – she smiled, courteously and nodded.

I’ve worn my PDJ almost every day since, because it just seems to work with everything. It’s just the item to give a pretty floral silk dress a bit of edge, yet also works well to pull together a regular black trouser and white shirt ensemble.

OK, found the perfect denim jacket.

Now, the hunt for the perfect pair of stylish Wellington Boots starts…
